R&B hothead Chris Brown celebrated his 24th Birthday at the Emerson Theatre in LA hosted by ZING Vodka and Black Pyramid last Saturday. The singer was surrounded by a large entourage and plenty of beautiful women (sans Rihanna) as he danced and stuffed his face with a Black Pyramid shaped birthday cake.

One half of 90s rap group Kris Kross died Wednesday, according to officials with the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Chris Kelly, 34, was found unresponsive at home in Atlanta, reports say. No cause of death has been determined yet.

Kelly and his rap partner Chris Smith, known as “Mac Daddy” and “Daddy Mac” respectively, hit the charts in 1992 with the song “Jump.”

Kris Kross made an appearance earlier this year at the So-So Def 20th Anniversary All-Star Concert in Atlanta.

Russell Crowe doesn’t have a great reputation for being the most cuddly of superstars (nor as a great singer, but that’s neither here nor there,) but to yell at a young Rebel Wilson? For shame, Russell. For shame.

On Tuesday night, Wilson went on “The Tonight Show” and told the amusing/sad tale of the time she tried to talk to Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe at a restaurant and was totally shut down by Crowe. The backstory: Wilson, who is from Australia, won the Nicole Kidman Scholarship at the Australian Theatre for Young People. Some time later, Rebel was at a restaurant in Sydney and saw Kidman and Crowe dining. She wanted to thank Kidman for the scholarship but, well, we’ll let her recall that magical moment:

“One time in Sydney, I saw her having dinner with Russell Crowe and I go, ‘OK, now’s my chance. I’m going to say thank you. I went up to them but, before I could say anything, Russell Crowe turns to me and says, ‘Fuck off!’ I just put my head down and walked the other way. …. But thanks, Nicole!”

This makes me love Rebel even more. I just hope the two never star in a movie together — especially if that movie is “Pitch Perfect 2.”

Look. I know the members of Hanson are old and they have, like, 23 kids between them (even the baby drummer has procreated — twice.) I’ve interviewed them several times and the voice on the other end wasn’t prepubescent (they are also supersensitive to people thinking they are teenagers, something I learned the hard way when I squealed, “You are so grown up!” to them.) I’ve even listened to their later albums. What I’m saying is: I KNOW THEY ARE OLD AND CAPABLE OF PARTYING. But when I read on E! News that Kristen Stewart decided to celebrate her 23rd birthday by crashing a record release party for the band at L.A. nightspot No Vacancy, my first thought was, “What is KStew doing with a bunch of 8-year-olds?” Apparently, if you broke out as a little person, I will always consider you a little person (don’t get me started on Lil’ Bow Wow.) Anyway, according to E!, the birthday girl arrived around 11 p.m. with Robert Pattinson and about 10 friends in tow, though it was unclear if they knew ahead of time about the band’s party. “They weren’t overly affectionate or anything, but at points they were standing together as they talked to friends,” a source says of Stewart and Pattinson. And then Hanson played pin-the-tail on the donkey, ate confetti cake and all three had temper tantrums when they were told it was bedtime. (I’m so sorry, Hanson. Next interview we do together, impress me with your 401K plan and maybe I’ll wrap my head around the fact of your aging.)

The drama between Rihanna and Chris Brown continues
Reports that Rihanna and Chris Brown have broken up might not exactly be accurate, but that doesn’t mean the couple is happy, according to Us Weekly. A source tells the magazine that while the pair hasn’t actually split up, they are fighting all the time. “Every second it’s a blow-up and then full-on in love,” the source says. “She’s touring and working her ass off, and he’s working his off in the studio,” and those busy schedules are adding to the stress. Rihanna is even using work to vent some of her frustrations, asking an audience at an L.A. concert this week, “How many of you are in love? How many of you hate love? How many of you don’t f—ing understand it? I’m in that group. The confused group.”

Madonna continues fight with Malawi president
Madonna’s ongoing feud with Malawi President Joyce Banda isn’t getting any better, with Banda now blasting the singer for reportedly demanding expedited travel privileges for herself and her entourage for a recent visit to the country, according to Yahoo! News. “Granted, Madonna is a famed international musician,” Banda says in a statement. “But that does not impose an injunction of obligation on any government under whose territory Madonna finds herself, including Malawi, to give her state treatment. Such treatment, even if she deserved it, is discretionary, not obligatory.” Madonna and company instead had to queue up with regular passengers and were reportedly frisked before being allowed through security.

Ben Affleck: Mr. Mom
It’s Jennifer Garner’s turn to go to work, which means husband Ben Affleck will be staying home with the kids, the “Argo” director reveals, according to Us Weekly. “She’s got a couple of movies coming up. There’s going to be a little Mr. Mom action and I’m going to get back in the ring,” Affleck says. “She told me to go to the gym, I’m preparing myself. I’m going to take on some more of the burden.”

Amanda Bynes’ recent campaign of bizarre behavior during her stay in New York is continuing unabated, with the former Nickelodeon star reportedly shocking attendees at a gymnastic class by showing up “in fishnets and a leotard that looked like lingerie,” according to Page Six. “She immediately started acting strangely,” a source says. “She lined up with the other gymnasts, and each took their turn to perform a roll. But Amanda just walked out on the mat, was spinning around in circles and mumbling to herself.” Later, the source adds, Bynes “did a cartwheel, but her wig fell off, and she sat down and cried.” The source reveals that Bynes wasn’t long for this particular gymnastics class: “She went two weeks in a row, but the second time she was escorted out. Staff were concerned about her manner and worried she might be a hazard to other people in the class.”

Lindsay Lohan infamously scheduled her upcoming 90-day rehab stint to start next month so that she can hit up the Coachella music festival starting this weekend, but at least one friend thinks she should skip it. “I fear for her life if she goes to the festival,” Danish promoter Claus Hjelmbak tells Radar Online. “Lindsay is in a very dark place right now, and I’m absolutely scared for her life. Coachella is the last place she needs to be. For someone struggling with addiction, like Lindsay, the amount of drugs and alcohol at Coachella is just a recipe for disaster waiting to happen.” The music festival takes place over two weekends in the desert near Palm Springs, with a packed schedule of famous bands set to perform, including the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Moby and Airborne Toxic Event.

Jay-Z and Beyonce Knowles may be in hot water for their lavish fifth wedding anniversary trip to Cuba last week, as it’s raising eyebrows with a few Florida politicians, according to Reuters. “Despite the clear prohibition against tourism in Cuba [for U.S. citizens], numerous press reports described the couple’s trip as tourism, and the Castro regime touted it as such in its propaganda,” Florida Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Mara Dias-Balart say in a letter to the director of the Office of Foreign Assets Control. “We represent a community of many who have been deeply and personally harmed by the Castro regime’s atrocities, including former political prisoners and families of murdered innocents.” A rep for Jay-Z and Beyonce was unavailable for comment.

Drew Barrymore is learning a lot now that she’s a mom. “I know it seems like I do everything, but there’s so much I had to give up. Things have to go and that’s unfortunate,” she tells Us Weekly. “You know that you’re going to miss out on your child’s upbringing or you realize that your relationship is going to suffer if you work night and day and weekends. Unfortunately, I was raised in this, like, generation of like, ‘Women can have it all,’ and I don’t think you can. I think some things fall off the table. The good news is, what does stay on the table becomes much more important.”

“American Idol” vet Adam Lambert is single again, having split up with boyfriend and Finnish “Big Brother” winner Sauli Koskinen, Lambert tells the South Florida Gay News. “It’s been kind of on its way out in the last couple of months,” Lambert says. “Sauli and I remain really good friends, and I know it’s a cliché to say, but it’s totally true. I just gave him a coffee and bagel earlier today. He’s a great person and we’ve had an amazing couple of years together. Things have just run their course.”

The U.S. Social Security Administration has released the list of 2011′s most popular baby names and there are celebrity influences for girls and boys alike. The names topping the list will be familiar as either pop culture’s biggest celebrities or well-known characters in instant cult classics.

It’s a long-standing tradition in history that babies are frequently named after the people making headlines at the time, and 2011 was no exception. Maybe not every parent who chose these names had a celebrity in mind, but it would be quite a coincidence that the most popular names are names we hear in tabloids all the time. Take a look at the list below for the top five most popular names and their ties to pop culture.

            
1. Jacob tops the list for most popular boy’s name. Does Jacob Black ring a bell? The lovable werewolf from “Twilight.” For girls,  the top choice is Sophia, a common name for bombshells throughout history, from Sophia Loren, to our modern day favorite Sofia Vergara.

2. Mason is next in line as most popular for boys, probably made famous by Mason Disick, TV tot son of famous parents Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick. Isabella is the second most popular girls name and could be an influence from another “Twilight” character, Bella Swan, the leading lady.

3. It’s no surprise William makes the list. Prince William was, after all, the world’s favorite groom of 2011. The name Emma for girls frequently graces the pages of magazines for celebrities like Emma Stone, Emma Watson and Emma Roberts.
 
4. The name Jayden was made popular by two two celebrity kids: Jaden Smith, son of Will and Jada Smitth, and Britney Spears’ son Jayden James. Girl’s name Olivia made a comeback in 2011, possibly thanks to famous gals like Olivia Wilde and Olivia Munn.

5. While Noah is a traditional Biblical name, it can’t help bring back memories of our favorite character from “The Notebook.” Celebrity parents like Reese Witherspoon set the trend the rest of the country is just now picking up on when she gave the rather vintage name Ava to her own daughter a few years ago.

The 25-year-old is now better known as an addict than as an actress, but has the combination of jail time, therapy and community service at a morgue finally made her come to her senses?

Psychotherapist Sherry Gaba has doubts over Lohan’s sobriety. “When a person is sober, they usually know their sobriety date without question. She did not give it in her most recent interview, so I am not so sure that she is,” says Gaba of last week’s chat with Matt Lauer for “The Today Show.”

On the other hand, Lohan’s career seems to be back on track, and she’s being tipped for the coveted role of Elizabeth Taylor in the upcoming “Elizabeth and Richard: A Love Story” — provided she behaves.

“Getting and staying sober is a one-day-at-a-time program,” says Gaba. “Lindsay will need to continue to stay close to a recovery program that will need to include 12-step meetings, a sponsor and possibly psychotherapy to deal with the underlying issues that have led to her numerous relapses.”

Gaba believes there is no guarantee that Lohan will stay clean forever: “Only if she is willing to make her recovery her No. 1 priority will she have an excellent chance of living a fulfilling and sober life.”

Child star trouble

Like other troubled former child stars (Drew Barrymore, Corey Haim, Corey Feldman and Britney Spears, just to name a few), Lindsay’s unusual upbringing may have contributed to her current problems.
   
“Child stars often become ‘adult children’ with highly stressful responsibilities. As young adults, they sometimes attempt to re-capture their lost childhoods by acting out and behaving in self-destructive ways, which may be one of the reasons Lindsay has been so troubled,” says Gaba.

The recently divorced actress was taken to a hospital Tuesday for issues related to substance abuse.

Her rep told TMZ, “Because of the stresses in her life right now, Demi has chosen to seek professional assistance to treat her exhaustion and improve her overall health. She looks forward to getting well and is grateful for the support of her family and friends.”

Typical PR jargon. Apparently every issue in Hollywood, whether it’s drugs, alcohol, or boy trouble is all credited to “exhaustion.” Can us normal folks use that excuse? ‘Sorry boss, I can’t come in to work today, I’m exhausted.’ We have a feeling that wouldn’t fly.

It’s sad to see her go down this road but we’re glad she’s getting the help she needs. You can do better than Ashton, Demi!

US Weekly is reporting that Kim and her sisters Khloe and Kourtney will be “immoortalized as Barbie’s pals in an upcoming limited-edition doll line.”

According to an US Weekly source, the dolls will reflect the girls’ measurements and may even come with outfits designed by the Kardashian sisters.”

Poor Khloe, she’s constantly being criticized for being bigger than her sisters. She can’t even catch a break in the Barbie world!

Nothing has been officially confirmed as The Wrap contacted Mattel and the said “the company does not comment on product rumors.”

Even so, Kim K and Barbie have had a Twitter report, with Kim tweeting on Christmas day:

“Merry Christmas Barbs! I’m sure we’ll be seeing lots of each other [in 2012]. Shopping soon!”

For the record, we also cringed at the abbreviation ‘Barbs.”

Only five days in and we broke our own New Year resolution of spending less time writing about the Kardashians.

While she’s helping him take a drink in the photo, all we can think is ‘give the man some space!’ Hospital beds are small, they barely fit one person comfortably, let alone two.

She later added:

“We’re trying to be as festive as possible under the circumstances but please keep Nick in your thoughts because this is very painful. … I’m not trying to make light out of the situation because it’s a serious moment that’s very tough on all of us so please keep us and our family in your prayers.”

According to Nick Cannon’s Twitter, he’s now been transfered to a hospital in Los Angeles and he “will be a’ight.”

It’s no secret that universal cutie Joseph Gordon Levitt knows how to play the guitar. Remember his rendition of Lady Gaga’s ‘Bad Romance’ last year? Fun, right?

Well in this video, Gordon-Levitt managed to take a fairly dirty song and turn it into a sexy slow jam. We’re all adults here, with lyrics like “It’s the freakin weekend baby I’m about to have me some fun’ we all know what kind of fun he’s talking about.

Gordon-Levitt interrupts the song at one point to ask the what sounds like a predominately female crowd “who here likes sex?” Obviously, the crowd goes nuts, because, who doesn’t like sex, right? As the crowd is hollering, Gordon-Levitt answers the obvious question: he too enjoys getting down. Phew, he got us worried.

And just like that, with this video, our ovaries exploded. We’re forever grateful to whoever posted it on YouTube.

America’s newest it-girl, Zooey Deschanel, and her husband, Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie have split.

The couple, which married two years ago in Seattle, announced the end of their marriage.

“It was mutual and amicable,” a source told US Weekly.

A representative for the couple confirmed that there was no third party involved.

The two met through their mutual manager three years ago.

In an interview with New York Magazing, Gibbard said, “I was just awestruck that she was even talking to me.”

There’s no doubt the two must be busy lately. Deschanel stars in Fox’s ‘New Girl’ while Death Cab for Cutie recently released their latest album, ‘Codes and Keys.’

On a positive note, maybe this will inspire both Deschanel and Gibbard to head back into the recording studio. It’s been a while since we’ve heard an awfully depressing Death Cab album. We’re talking about  ‘Transatlanticism’ sad.

We also encourage Deschanel, who is half of the band She & Him, to start writing again. Her second album ‘Volume 2’ was a little too lovey-dovey for our liking, so we’re banking on ‘Volume 3.’ Come on, Zooey, let the music express your pain.   

If there was a celebrity couple we were rooting for it was definitely Deschanel and Gibbard. How can we ever believe in love again?

Kris and Kim are certainly not alone in their short-lived union. Plenty of celebrity spouses have called it quits in less time than it takes for most of us to redeem our Bed, Bath & Beyond coupons. Let’s take a stroll down memory lane and remind ourselves of all the celebrity marriages that lasted even less time than the 72-day wedded bliss of Kris and Kim.

Zsa Zsa Gabor takes the wedding cake for shortest celebrity marriage. She got her marriage with Felipe DeAlba annulled after less than a day. Turned out, she wasn’t officially divorced from her previous husband anyway. She decided not to remarry DeAlba, though, reportedly saying, “He bored me. He’s a playboy and I’m a hard working actress.”

Who can forget the drunken nuptials of Britney Spears and her childhood friend Jason Alexander? If there is any indication that a marriage will fail, it might be that the wedding happens at 5:30 a.m. in Vegas.  They were only married for 55 hours.

Now, we thought these two were a match made in heaven, but apparently Carmen Electra and Dennis Rodman had a different idea: Annulment after 9 days. We can’t begin to speculate what could have possibly gone wrong.

Eddie Murphy and producer Tracey Edmonds were all smiles at first, but it wasn’t long before their marriage came to an end. By not long, we mean 14 days. Hey, they gave it their best shot. We can’t imagine Eddie Murphy being anything less than the greatest husband ever.

Aren’t these two just the picture of domestic life? Erin Everly and Axel Rose tied the not, not once, but twice. It’s hard enough to imagine Axel Rose making that kind of commitment even one time — but he did, and the marriage lasted a whopping 26 days. The pair wed again later, staying married for nine months that time. The lesson here? Don’t marry a rockstar… and then don’t do it again.

Pamela Anderson is no stranger to short marriages, but darn it, we really thought it was the real thing when she married Kid Rock. After that beautiful wedding at sea, the couple called it quits about four months later. Pam, will you ever find love?

Amazingly, a marriage with Tom Green isn’t Drew Barrymore’s only embarrassing wedding flop. The actress spent 29 days married to Jeremy Thomas. She didn’t learn her lesson though, and later went through a divorce with Tom Green after about five months of marriage.

Rather than creating a hype around his sexuality, Quinto casually brought it during an interview with New York magazine’s Benjamin Wallance.

Speaking about gay issues such teenage suicide rates or how gay marriage was legalized in New York, Quinto said:

“And again, as a gay man I look at that and say there’s a hopelessness that surrounds it, but as a human being I look at it and say ‘Why? Where’s this disparity coming from, and why can’t we as a culture and society dig deeper to examine that?’ We’re terrified of facing ourselves.”

Quinto has played the role of a gay man before including on Tori Spelling’s TV show ‘So NoTORIous’ and on the new FX show “American Horror Story.”

Following his decision to announce he’s gay, Quinto also wrote a blog post about it on his personal website.

“when i found out that jamey rodemeyer killed himself – i felt deeply troubled. but when i found out that jamey rodemeyer had made an it gets better video only months before taking his own life – i felt indescribable despair. i also made an it gets better video last year – in the wake of the senseless and tragic gay teen suicides that were sweeping the nation at the time. but in light of jamey’s death – it became clear to me in an instant that living a gay life without publicly acknowledging it – is simply not enough to make any significant contribution to the immense work that lies ahead on the road to complete equality. our society needs to recognize the unstoppable momentum toward unequivocal civil equality for every gay lesbian bisexual and transgendered citizen of this country. gay kids need to stop killing themselves because they are made to feel worthless by cruel and relentless bullying. parents need to teach their children principles of respect and acceptance. we are witnessing an enormous shift of collective consciousness throughout the world. we are at the precipice of great transformation within our culture and government. i believe in the power of intention to change the landscape of our society – and it is my intention to live an authentic life of compassion and integrity and action. jamey rodemeyer’s life changed mine. and while his death only makes me wish that i had done this sooner – i am eternally grateful to him for being the catalyst for change within me. now i can only hope to serve as the same catalyst for even one other person in this world. that – i believe – is all that we can ask of ourselves and of each other.”

And just like that, Quinto became the classiest actor in Hollywood.

The actor stepped out recently with a woman who looked a lot like the “American Idol” judge, though she was going to great lengths to shield herself from photographers, according to Us Weekly.  A source close to the singer says it was in fact Lopez meeting up with the “Hangover” star, getting together again after having dinner last month. “After their date in New York, Bradley and Jennifer stayed in touch,” the source says. “She does like his attention, and it makes her feel good that he seems so into her. She has a fun time with Bradley and he makes her laugh.”

But while these two might be getting tight, it looks like Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore are heading toward splitsville. A  moving truck was seen pulling up to the couple’s L.A. home late last week, according to Us Weekly. The moving company, Wetzel & Sons, would not divulge any information about the job. While it’s unclear who may be vacating the premises, sources speculate Kutcher would be the one kicked to the curb. “Demi is humiliated,” a source says. “She loves him, but can’t forgive him for the embarrassment he has caused.”

Meanwhile, although there is no gossip regarding who Zachary Quinto is or isn’t dating, there is one thing for certain: He likes dating dudes.

In a New York interview, the “Star Trek” actor chatted about his role in the off-Broadway production of “Angels in America,” saying,  “As a gay man, it made me feel like there’s still so much work to be done, and there’s still so many things that need to be looked at and addressed.”

And that, actors, is a great way to come out. No fanfare, no tabloid cover, just a straight-forward piece about your work. Mazel tov!

This is one of four classes Yoba is teaching as part of an intensive course at LIU called “The Working Actor.” About 13 of the people enrolled are either students or faculty at the school. The other seven are people from in and around the community who heard about the course and decided to sign up.

Yoba begins the class by explaining that he is the director and if you don’t want to follow his directions, you can leave.  He starts us off with an introduction exercise requiring each of us to perform an action and a sound and then state our name.  Heart pounding, I nervously wait for my turn and in a moment of panic and embarrassment, I “raise the roof” and say, “Woot, woot! Cassie…from Cleveland!” Then the entire class repeats it.

Later, Yoba fields questions from the group and presses them about what they are hoping to gain from the course about the world of acting.

“I haven’t been able to cry since 2008,” one student told the class.

Yoba, who is currently starring on the new series “ALPHAS” on the SyFy channel, offers up many of his own experiences from re-working scenes written by Tyler Perry to his personal friendship with Janet Jackson. The students are in awe of him and eager to impress. It is Yoba who is impressed, though, after two students improvise a powerful scene in which they must establish their relationship with each other during the first 10 seconds.

“I live for watching people discover things about themselves and grow,” Yoba said when I asked what inspired him to teach the course. “I love that I can share information that can unlock human potential.”

“The Working Actor” is one of several recent courses at a university headed by a celebrity. James Franco and director Spike Lee each have their own class at NYU this fall. For Malik Yoba, the draw is from helping others achieve in a craft he has been practicing his entire career.

“I love to see people shine,” he said.
