He survived the shot and was found hiding under a car, but was pronounced dead on arrival when he was taken to the hospital, cops said. He is on parole for life due to a conviction for robbery in the second degree. Police are investigating the death of a 26-year-old man gunned down in Brooklyn on Sunday night, police said.

Cops responded to the call at about 9:10 p.m. in the vicinity of Elton Street and New Lots Avenue in East New York. The victim had a gunshot wound to his neck, police said. He was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No arrests have been made. The victim’s identity has not yet been released.

Luis Martinez, 51, was found with a gunshot wound to his chest when police responded to a call about a shooting at 566 Shepherd Ave. at approximately 1 p.m., cops said.

A 63-year-old man was apprehended at the scene. The shooting may have been the result of a landlord-tenant dispute over unpaid rent between the suspect and another tenant, The Daily News reported. Martinez intervened and was shot by the suspect. The investigation is ongoing.

More than half of children are living in poverty in some New York City neighborhoods.
