Nelson Morales, 28, and Kevin Santos, 32, and three other men attempted to rob a Brooklyn drug dealer in December 2011 before they were interrupted by police. When Figoski, 44, responded to the scene, he was shot and killed by Lamont Pride. Pride was convicted in February and sentenced to 45 years to life. Michael Velez, the getaway driver in the case, was acquitted of all charges. Two men involved in the botched robbery that ended with the shooting death of NYPD officer Peter Figoski are set to go on trial this week, the Daily News reports.

Nelson Morales, 28, and Kevin Santos, 32, and three other men attempted to rob a Brooklyn drug dealer in December 2011 before they were interrupted by police. When Figoski, 44, responded to the scene, he was shot and killed by Lamont Pride.

Pride was convicted in February and sentenced to 45 years to life. Michael Velez, the getaway driver in the case, was acquitted of all charges.

Morales was in the news again this March after he sued the city, claiming he was permanently injured when a Department of Corrections bus crashed into another bus on Rikers Island in January of 2012.

Velez had claimed that he was not aware that the other men were planning a robbery, the NY Post reported.
