The comic book superheroes of "The Avengers" and comedy romance "Silver Linings Playbook" ruled at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday in a ceremony packed with irreverent jokes about body parts and sneak peeks of some of the year's biggest upcoming films. [embedgallery id =post=13461]

"The Avengers" picked up three awards, including the top prize, Movie of the Year, along with Best Villain for Tom Hiddleston's turn as Loki, and Best Fight.

"This is the award that means the most to me. I am so grateful and very excited for 2015 — we're going to bring you 'Avengers 2,'" director Joss Wheedon said in his acceptance speech for best movie, confirming that a sequel was in the works.

Jennifer Lawrence added two popcorn-shaped trophies to her Oscar for her turn as an outspoken young widow in "Silver Linings Playbook."

She won for Best Female Performance and shared the Best Kiss award with co-star Bradley Cooper, who was voted Best Male Performance for his role as a bipolar man in the romantic comedy.

Hosted by "Pitch Perfect" comedy star Rebel Wilson, the annual youth-oriented show brought out some of the most popular stars on television, movies and music.

The MTV Movie Awards, one of Hollywood's biggest youth-friendly ceremonies, rewards movie performances from the past year as well as promoting upcoming blockbusters and new music.

A heavily pregnant Kim Kardashian, dressed in a modest long-sleeved black dress, and Brad Pitt, whose new movie "World War Z" opens in June, were among the presenters. while teen singer Selena Gomez debuted her new single "Come & Get It."

Wilson, who took home the Breakthrough Performance award for her role as Fat Amy in musical comedy "Pitch Perfect," kept up a stream of edgy jokes about male and female sexuality, appearing at one point with a fake extra nipple.

Seth Rogen and Danny McBride dropped their pants in a skit on male physiques and "Twilight" heartthrob Taylor Lautner turned up sporting a false beer gut to collect his trophy for Best Shirtless Performance.

Fans, who vote online for the awards, chose "Django Unchained" actors Jamie Foxx and Samuel L. Jackson for Best WTF Moment for the scene in which Foxx's vengeful slave berates and unleashes a volley of gunshots at Jackson's manservant.

Foxx was also honored with the MTV Generation Award.

Viewers for the more than two hour-show broadcast around the world live from Los Angeles were treated to sneak peeks of "Iron Man 3," and "Star Trek: Into Darkness" ahead of their openings in late April and May.

They also got a first exclusive look at "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" ahead of the release in November of the sequel to the young adult hit movie.

Emma Watson, 22, who found fame as brainy schoolgirl Hermione Granger in the first "Harry Potter" movie in 2001, was presented with the Trailblazer Award. She has gone on to make some 15 movies, including lead roles in all eight Potter films.

"I look back at all of the work I have done over the past 14 years and many things come to mind, notably how bad my hair was in the first Harry Potter film!" the British actress joked, accepting her award. "Becoming yourself is really hard and confusing," she added.

Will Ferrell won the Comedic Genius Award for his long career on film and television including "Elf," "Saturday Night Live" and "Anchorman."

Raunchy comedy "Ted," which went into Sunday's award show with seven nominations, ended the evening with just one win — Best Onscreen Duo for Mark Wahlberg and Seth MacFarlane's crude talking teddy bear.

'Spring Breakers'
Director: Harmony Korine
Stars: Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens
Rating: R
2 (out of 5) Globes

The Spring Breakers of the title — religious Faith (Selena Gomez) plus bad girl friends-since-kindergarten Brit (Ashley Benson), Candy (Vanessa Hudgens) and Cotty (Rachel Korine) — are bored at the start of Harmony Korine's super-stylized exploitation drama. Despondent with their flat-looking campus and wanting to see "something new," the three evil girls rob a Chicken Shack restaurant, then collar Faith and head to Florida for drugs and demonstrative hedonism. [related tag="movies" limit=3]

Party montages ensue, and during a cocaine-heavy afternoon the cops show up. Up to this point, "Spring Breakers" keeps a straight face, giving sex-minded viewers what they came for: copious anonymous toplessness and young women giving porn-minded frat boys what they expect. From Gaspar Noe, an equally provocation-minded director, Korine borrows both cinematographer Benoit Debie and a modified unnerving sound effect. In Noe's feature debut "I Stand Alone," gunshots go off on the soundtrack for no reason and with little warning, scaring audiences with random noise alone. Here, Korine similarly jacks up the sound of a gun being cocked, an audio link with dubstep terror Skrillex's bass thumping. Violent rhythms presage actual violence, with random kids destroying rooms as a partying highlight.

When the MTV-plus-boobs good times end, Faith et al. are bailed out by aspiring rapper/drug lord/freelance ruffian Alien (James Franco). Reveling in his money, his platinum grille and a TV with a constant loop of "Scarface," he's a self-proclaimed "gangsta" with enough guns for his own final Pacino-esque shootout. He's a goofy, inspired comic creation burdened with the responsibility of spelling out Korine's themes. "This is America," Alien explains. "This is the American dream."

That dream has to inevitably reveal itself a nightmare, presumably darkening and curdling the earlier T&A. The girls and Alien share a communal narration track, an unabashed nod to Terrence Malick, whose 1974 debut "Badlands" similarly gives Sissy Spacek an uncomprehending, flat voiceover over a murderous summer spree. The girls are vapid, bad commenters on their own story, manically fixated on partying and singing Britney Spears.

Repetitively nihilistic, it's a movie making predictable visual poetry — jacked-up neon lights at night, drugged-out partiers reaching transcendence through exhaustion — out of girls whose only viable aspirations for transcendence go no further than the worst week in Florida. That's sad, but Korine's beautiful losers are interchangeable, and his shockingly clunky third-act exposition punctures any ambitions for a death-charged dream reverie.

Demi Moore is finally filing divorce papers to end her marriage with Ashton Kutcher, according to Page Six. The news comes 16 months after their initial separation — and three months after Kutcher's own filing. So what was the hold up? A source claims Moore had been trying to reach a confidential settlement with Kutcher about his income but has given up on the negotiations. "Ashton made a lot of money after marrying Demi — a lot more than she made — but despite him becoming just as famous through her, he believes he doesn't owe her that much, the source says, adding that Kutcher "has been very difficult during the talks."

Following her spat with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, Taylor Swift has earned the ire of another famous funny woman. While Chelsea Handler says she's not taking sides in the feud, she does have some interesting things to say about Swift. "My theory about Taylor Swift is that she's a virgin, that everyone breaks up with her because they date her for two weeks and she's like, 'I'm not going to do it.' And they're like, 'Oh well, forget it,'" she speculates during a chat on "Watch What Happens Live" with Andy Cohen. "Every guy thinks they're going to de-virgin-ize her, and they're not. She's never going to de-virgin-ized, ever, ever, ever, ever."

Jake Gyllenhaal has a new lady in his life, and he reportedly met her in a spin class. Gyllenhaal and Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Emily DiDonato have been dating "for a month or two," a source tells Us Weekly. The pair met at New York's SpinCycle exercise studio, where Gyllenhaal has been know to work out whenever he's in the city. "He'll hop on the instructor bike," the source says. "He loves the attention from the girls."

Selena Gomez admits that she hasn't had that active of a love life since her split from Justin Bieber, and apparently she doesn't get "asked out a lot," she tells Harper's Bazaar. "And when I actually look presentable, I'm at an awards show. It's not like I've wanted to go out and look for someone. I'm not really good at that." Gomez admits that life with Bieber was made more stressful because of all the paparazzi attention. "But that's not a factor for me because unfortunately you can't control that," she says.

Pete Townsend is looking to make amends after apparently swearing at a 7-year-old girl and her parents during a recent concert in Ontario, Canada. Townsend became annoyed after spotting a sign that read, "Smash your guitar, Pete!" being held up by the girl. "Go away with that sign, please. Just go away with it," he scolded her parents. "Don't bring you children [and] use them. I want to tell you two words, but I can't because you've got a child here." He then mouthed the words "f--- off" at them. Townsend feels differently now, according to the Toronto Sun. "Apologies and condolences from my side, and very best wishes to you and your family," Townsend writes in a letter to the father and daughter. "I am most certainly not angry. I was not angry on stage either. I was in rock star mode, the big mouth."

The pair met at New York’s SpinCycle exercise studio, where Gyllenhaal has been know to work out whenever he’s in the city. “He’ll hop on the instructor bike,” the source says. “He loves the attention from the girls.”

Selena Gomez admits that she hasn’t had that active of a love life since her split from Justin Bieber, and apparently she doesn’t get “asked out a lot,” she tells Harper’s Bazaar. “And when I actually look presentable, I’m at an awards show. It’s not like I’ve wanted to go out and look for someone. I’m not really good at that.” Gomez admits that life with Bieber was made more stressful because of all the paparazzi attention. “But that’s not a factor for me because unfortunately you can’t control that,” she says.

Pete Townsend is looking to make amends after apparently swearing at a 7-year-old girl and her parents during a recent concert in Ontario, Canada. Townsend became annoyed after spotting a sign that read, “Smash your guitar, Pete!” being held up by the girl. “Go away with that sign, please. Just go away with it,” he scolded her parents. “Don’t bring you children [and] use them. I want to tell you two words, but I can’t because you’ve got a child here.” He then mouthed the words “f— off” at them. Townsend feels differently now, according to the Toronto Sun. “Apologies and condolences from my side, and very best wishes to you and your family,” Townsend writes in a letter to the father and daughter. “I am most certainly not angry. I was not angry on stage either. I was in rock star mode, the big mouth.”

Alas, we weren’t so lucky. But the superstar did answer some questions about his new album, “Believe Acoustic,” via e-mail, shortly before heading out on his European tour.

Metro: On “Believe Acoustic,” you sound rawer and more available than on previous big production tracks. How do you make that intimacy sound authentic, even though you’re…Justin Bieber?

Bieber: It sounds authentic because it is. Acoustic performances, whether busking in my hometown or on YouTube, are how I got started. Songs and performances like that really give me the chance to connect with my fans. That connection is why I perform an acoustic set as part of my Believe Tour every night.

Does this bring us closer to the “real” Justin?

I think everything I put out is a representation of the real me. But this album (Believe Acoustic) definitely allows the public to see a different side of me than “Believe.” The sound of this album is a lot rawer and more exposed.

I ask because previous stars your age—Timberlake, Britney—usually start to define their sound for an older audience around this time. Where are you going?

I’m just growing up and my sound is maturing with me. I don’t spend a lot of time planning where my music will go next. I just write about what is going on in my life and how I am feeling and it’s causing the music to grow with me in a very organic way.

Lots of guys in dorm rooms everywhere play acoustic guitars to pick up girls...and fail, because they look cheesy. What tips do you have for them?

Be confident.

What are you doing this Valentine’s Day?

I’ve got a small break before my UK tour dates start so I’m still figuring it out.

What’s the wildest offer that you’ve had from a female fan?

I get a lot of marriage proposals.

We have to ask about “Nothing Like Us,” a song about your break –up with Selena Gomez—you told Billboard you’re not in the happiest place and have friends to get you through. What have you learned about relationships?

I have learned a lot about who I am and who I want to be.

And?

I’ve also learned how to be there for someone else.
