Police have arrested a 44-year-old man who snatched $500 from a toddler’s hand after the child removed the money from his mother’s purse.

Warren Hayes of the Bronx turned himself in on Tuesday, cops said. Hayes allegedly saw a 3-year-old boy remove $500 in cash from his mother’s purse inside a liquor store in Hunt’s Point last Friday. When the child’s mother did not notice, Hayes approached the boy, took the money and fled the store.

He has been charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree.

A man who is accused of physically assaulting two people was accidentally shot by police on Sunday night after the suspect barricaded himself inside of an apartment.

Hassan King, 42, allegedly punched a 22-year-old man and struck a 34-year-old woman at approximately 10:40 p.m. during a dispute inside an apartment at 1380 University Ave. in the Bronx. The victims were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition.

After the assault, King barricaded himself inside the apartment, and hostage negotiators tried to convince the suspect to surrender for more than two hours, police said.

When cops finally forced the door open, the lead officer accidentally shot King in the wrist when the door swung back and hit the lead officer. King was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition.

He is charged with assault, menacing, harassment and obstructing governmental administration.

Police are searching for a man who punched an unidentified victim on a Queens-bound 7 train last week.

The suspect punched the passenger about 1 a.m. on May 5 before exiting the train at the 69th Street station, cops said. The man is caught on video as he stands in the middle of the car and swings his arm to punch his victim, who is sitting down.

A witness recorded the assault on a cell phone and shared it with the Central Robbery Queens Transit Squad. The victim of the assault did not report the crime. Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect and locating the victim.

The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic male, about 5-foot-9, 180 pounds, with brown eyes and long black hair worn in a ponytail. He was last seen wearing a dark T-shirt and blue jeans.

Police are searching for a 21-year-old man wanted in the rape and robbery of a woman at gunpoint in a Brooklyn park last year. 

The attack occurred almost a year ago on May 29, 2012. Police were recently able to identify Damien Hollis as a suspect thanks to a positive DNA hit.

Cops say Hollis approached a 26-year-old woman early on the morning of May 29, 2012, at a bus stop located at East New York and Ralph avenues. He brandished a firearm and ordered her to walk to Lincoln Terrace Park, where he raped her. He then took the victim’s cell phone and fled.

Hollis is described as about 6 feet tall and 160 lbs. with short black hair and brown eyes.

Cops are looking for a man who took $500 from a child’s hand.

According to police, on Friday shortly before 11 a.m., a woman, 43, was inside a liquor store on East 163rd Street when her 3-year-old son took $500 out of her jacket pocket.

The mother did not realize this happened, cops said, but the suspect saw and took the money from the kid’s hand. He then fled the store.

Cops described the man as a dark-skinned male in his early 30s, 5-foot-9 and about 240 pounds.

Cops are looking for a man who tried to rob a cab driver.

According to police, shortly before 10 p.m. on Friday, a man entered a cab at 63rd Road and 108th Street in Queens.

He demanded cash and showed a syringe and simulated a gun, cops said.

The cabbie did not hand over the cash, and the suspect fled.

Police described him as male, white, 25 to 30 with brown hair and a slight beard.

Police are searching for a man who robbed a 13-year-old girl at gunpoint in the Bronx last week.

The suspect approached the girl at approximately 3 p.m. on April 29 on Broadway, police said. He displayed a gun and demanded her cell phone. The victim complied and the suspect fled.

Cops released a surveillance photo of the suspect. He is described as a white male wearing dark clothing.

Police are searching for a man who sexually assaulted two 7-year-old girls in Queens on Wednesday.

The suspect approached the first victim at approximately 2:45 p.m. on the stoop of her home in South Ozone Park and grabbed her buttocks, police said. The victim’s 12-year-old sister yelled at the suspect and he ran off.

About three hours later, the suspect approached another 7-year-old female who was in the driveway of her home, also in South Ozone Park. He forced the girl to perform a criminal sexual act and then fled the location.

The suspect, described to be white male in his 30s or 40s, approached the victim at around 4:45 p.m. on April 14 and touched her buttocks. No injuries were reported.

The man is described to be about 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10, weighing approximately 240 lbs and has black and gray hair.

An armed suspect allegedly robbed a Chipotle in Manhattan last week and got away with $6,000 in cash, police said.

Cops are searching for the man who entered the restaurant at 320 Park Ave. in Midtown just before midnight on April 25. The suspect pulled out a silver handgun and demanded money from the store safe, cops said.

He also allegedly forced one employee to tie up a second employee using zip ties during the robbery. He then fled with the cash.

The suspect is described as being approximately 6-foot or 6-foot-1, between 200 and 225 lbs, wearing black jeans, a black Northface jacket, black hooded sweatshirt and a black winter hat with a white emblem on the front. He was also wearing white gloves with red palms.

A shootout erupted in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn Monday night when a suspect opened fire on police officers, the New York Post reports.

Cops were investigating the shooting of two teens when the suspect shot at them at approximately 10 p.m. The police officers fired back, but no one was hit.

The suspect then ran through Lincoln Terrace Park near Brownsville, leading to a chase that involved a police helicopter and mobile command unit, the Post reports.

The gunman was wearing baggy black pants and a black hoodie. It was not clear if the suspect was caught as of Tuesday morning.

Police are searching for a suspect who shot and injured two men in Brooklyn last month.

The victims were walking in the vicinity of Van Buren Street and Throop Avenue in Bed-Stuy about 10:20 p.m. on March 20 when they got into a verbal dispute with a group of unknown males, cops said. The suspect took out a gun and fired it several times. The first victim sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, and the second victim sustained gunshot wounds to the arm and buttocks. Both victims were taken to an area hospital and were listed in stable condition.

Police released a surveillance video that shows the suspect firing shots and then fleeing the scene.

The Federal Public Defender Office said Saturday it will represent Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings, once charges are filed.

Miriam Conrad, head of the Boston office that represents criminal suspects who cannot afford a lawyer, said via email that “we have been informed that we will be appointed after charges are filed.”

The pending appointment came as some Republicans called for the suspect to be tried with fewer rights, which could lead to a battle over the legal process.

Conrad said she could not give more details.

But a source close to the investigation, speaking on condition of anonymity, said officials hoped to file charges against Tsarnaev later on Saturday.

The source said the 19-year-old was shot in the throat and had tongue damage.

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick said Tsarnaev’s condition was serious. “He’s not yet able to speak,” Patrick told reporters on Saturday.

The suspect was captured Friday night and remained hospitalized under guard in Boston. Another official in Conrad’s office, Charles McGinty, said earlier on Saturday that its attorneys have not spoken to Tsarnaev and will have to be appointed to represent him by a federal judge.

“That’s why we’re trying to advance the appointment to be as soon as possible,” he said.

In Washington, several Republicans lawmakers called on the Obama administration to try Tsarnaev as an “enemy combatant” under terms of war, without rights such as the appointment of counsel.

“The accused perpetrators of these acts were not common criminals attempting to profit from a criminal enterprise, but terrorists trying to injure, maim, and kill innocent Americans,” Senators John McCain of Arizona, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire, and Representative Peter King of New York said in a statement.

Authorities did not read the teenager the Miranda warning usually given by police to criminal suspects before they are interrogated so statements can be admissible in court.

A Justice Department official said the government is invoking the public safety exception to Miranda to question the suspect extensively about other potential explosive devices or accomplices and to gain critical intelligence.

The Republican lawmakers praised that decision and also said they were encouraged that a so-called high-value detainee interrogation team was involved in the investigation.

The group was created after President Barack Obama ordered the shutdown of a CIA program in which militant suspects were held in a network of secret prisons during the administration of President George W. Bush.

Police have released new surveillance video of a suspect wanted for raping three women in Brooklyn, including a 15-year-old girl.

The new video was taken in the vicinity of Midwood Street and Schenectady Avenue, where the man allegedly raped the teenager.

In all of the incidents, the suspect started a conversation with the victim and lured them away.

On April 4, he is accused of raping a 25-year-old woman in a parking lot near Albany Avenue and Fenimore Street.

On April 11, he is said to have attacked a 19-year-old woman in a private driveway near Remsen Avenue and Farragut Road. He then raped the 15-year-old girl later on the same day.

The suspect is described a black male in his 20s, 5-foot-9 and about 160-180 pounds. He has been seen wearing a green camouflaged jacket, pants, boots and baseball cap.

Although the Associated Press reported today that an arrest has been made based on two different video images of the Boston Marathon bombings suspect, Reuters is reporting that no suspect is in custody.

An official transmission over all Boston Police scanner channels today said that to their knowledge, no arrests have been made in connection to the bombings. FBI officials, however, have neither confirmed nor denied the arrest.

At 1 p.m. CNN’s John King said a “dark-skinned male” had been identified in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings, although investigators had yet to publicly confirm the development.

The Associated Press said at 1:40 p.m. that “an arrest was imminent” and that the suspect would immediately be taken to court.

King said that videos and photos taken at the scene had helped to identify the suspect.

Law investigators confirmed the development was “a game-changer.”

Another source told King the breakthrough came from videos taken near Lord & Taylor, near the explosion site.

Video turned over by a Boston TV station was also helpful, according to King, offering a “very clear” facial image.

The potential breakthrough has yet to be confirmed by the FBI, however a media briefing that was expected at 1:30 p.m. has been rescheduled until later this afternoon.

“The attack could be the work of al Qaeda or an al Qaeda affiliate,” said Dr. James Forest, a professor of terrorism at the University of Massachusetts in Lowell, near Boston. “Al Shabaab, the al Qaeda affiliate in Somalia, often attacks public events. The perpetrator could also be a lone wolf, whether inspired by al Qaeda or not. Or it could be domestic terrorists. In that case, the day would matter more than the target.”

That’s because April 15 was Patriots’ Day in Massachusetts – and the last day for Americans to file their tax returns. For most Americans, Tax Day is filled with dread as they rush to fill in complicated forms. For anti-government extremists, it’s a day of rage towards government institutions.

But, noted Forest: “Anti-government extremists usually attack government buildings, as Timothy McVeigh did in Oklahoma City, not international events.”

According to Alexia Ash, head of North America Forecasting at the political risk firm Exclusive Analysis, the perpetrator’s (or perpetrators’) goal was to cause mass casualties, not to attack buildings or specific people.

In fact, the Boston Marathon may have been a target of convenience. Observers point out that the attack was carefully planned, with the bombs going off at the finishing line, where TV cameras would capture the attack live.

“At other major sporting events like the Olympics or the Superbowl, where staff funnel spectators through security procedures, marathons are relatively easy to access,” Forest said. “Anybody can show up with a backpack.”

That’s likely to change now.

Police are searching for an armed suspect driving an SUV who followed a man leaving a Queens mosque and threatened to kill him while making anti-Muslim statements.

The victim left the mosque at 72-55 Kissena Blvd. about 8 p.m. on April 12. He was driving his car when he noticed he was being followed by a man in a dark-colored SUV, cops said.

When the victim stopped at a traffic light at Union Turnpike and 199th Street, the suspect pulled up next to the victim, pulled out a gun and threatened to kill him. He made anti-Muslim slurs before driving off.

The suspect is described as a white male in his late 50s, with dark hair and a mustache. He was last seen wearing a dark suit jacket with an emblem patch on the left pocket. He may have been driving a Toyota SUV with an unknown New York license plate.

Police are searching for a man who sexually assaulted a woman early Sunday morning near City Hall Park in lower Manhattan. 

The woman was attacked at about 4:45 a.m. in the vicinity of Park Row and Beekman Street, cops said. The suspect followed the 28-year-old victim into Theatre Alley, where he pushed her to the ground and then attempted to rape her.

Nearby construction workers heard the woman scream and ran over, scaring off the suspect, the New York Post reported.

The victim was taken to an area hospital where she was listed in stable condition. Police released a surveillance photo of a man wanted for questioning Sunday night.

The man approached the victim, 28, about 2 a.m. April 6 on East 27th Street, police said. He displayed a black handgun and demanded money and a cellphone. When the woman said she didn’t have anything, he sexually assaulted her and then fled the scene.

Cops say they have caught the man wanted for groping girls and women in Brooklyn laundromats.

According to police, cops arrested Bay Shore resident Lowell Britt, 27, and charged him with persistent sexual abuse and public lewdness.

Police are searching for a man who forcibly touched five female victims, some as young as 14 years old, inside laundromats in the Bushwick and Canarsie neighborhoods of Brooklyn.

In each of the incidents, the man enters the laundromat, exposes himself and rubs himself against the unsuspecting victim, police said. The suspect targeted a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old on March 18. About an hour later, he targeted another 14-year-old girl.

About 9 a.m. on March 30, the man targeted a 43-year-old woman. He then approached a 32-year-old woman just 20 minutes later.

The suspect is described as a black male, between 5-foot-9 and 6-foot-2 and weighing about 200 lbs.

Police are searching for a man who struck a woman in the face with a ketchup bottle at a West Village diner in an alleged bias assault, cops said.

The man approached the 33-year-old victim inside Waverly Diner on Sixth Avenue at approximately 4:40 a.m. on April 1. He made some anti-gay statements and then hit the woman with a ketchup bottle, causing a laceration to her forehead, police said.

The suspect is being described as a black male, approximately 6-foot-1, weighing about 200 lbs. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored baseball cap, a grey baseball-style shirt with dark sleeves, blue jeans and dark-colored sneakers.

Police have arrested a 33-year-old Bronx man who is accused of violently attacking and sexually assaulting at least four different women during the past month and a half.

Miguel Lopez is the man police have been searching for since Feb. 24 when he allegedly first attacked a 27-year-old victim as she was walking to the train near 161st Street in the late afternoon. He allegedly grabbed the woman from behind, punched her repeatedly and then sexually assaulted her.

Lopez attacked three other women in the Bronx, mostly in the early morning or late at night. He often punched his victims and sometimes threatened them with a knife or box cutter.

The most recent incident occurred March 31 in Bedford Park. The suspect followed a 40-year-old woman and a 49-year-old man into an apartment building and robbed them at knifepoint. He then continued to follow the female victim, forced his way into her apartment and raped her.

Lopez faces a number of charges, including sexual abuse, rape, robbery and criminal possession of a weapon.

Cops are searching for a man who snatched an iPad mini from a straphanger March 25, but failed to get away with the device when the owner of the iPad chased him down and snatched it back.

The victim was standing on the uptown 1 train platform inside the West 28th Street subway station about 10:10 p.m. when the suspect grabbed his iPad mini from his hand and tried to flee. The victim caught the robber, struggled with him and retrieved the tablet.

The suspect fled the location. He is being described as a white or Hispanic male in his late 30s, about 5-foot-8 or 5-foot-9.

Police are searching for a man on crutches who they say stole a bag containing a laptop from a Columbia University building.

The suspect targeted a student inside the School of International and Public Affairs at 420 W. 118th St. about 2:10 p.m. March 6. He removed the victim’s bag and then fled the scene using his crutches.

He is described as a white male. The same suspect stole a wallet in another Columbia building in February, the New York Post reports. He may have used the crutches as a prop to appear less suspicious, a law enforcement source told the Post.

A 26-year-old Bronx man has been arrested after he reportedly sexually assaulted a 14-year-old boy inside an apartment building in Parkchester.

Clive Rosario has been charged with two counts of criminal sex act and one count of sexual abuse, according to police. Rosario allegedly followed the victim into the building on March 25, started a conversation with him and then sexually assaulted him.

Police are searching for a suspect who punched a 35-year-old man inside a Manhattan subway station and then ran off with his iPhone early Monday morning, cops said.

The NYPD released a video of the incident that occurred inside the Times Square-42nd Street subway station about 12:02 a.m. The suspect is seen talking to the victim near the turnstiles, looking around in multiple directions and then punching the victim to the ground.

Police have arrested a man wanted for attacking a 21-year-old woman inside a subway station in Brooklyn and attempting to rape her.

Demetrius Morales, 23, has been charged with attempted rape, forcible touching and sexual abuse.

The woman exited a train at the Bedford Avenue and Nostrand Avenue stop in Bedford-Stuyvesant about 9:30 p.m. on March 14. The suspect approached the woman and offered to help her with her bags. She accepted the help and as they ascended the stairwell, Morales allegedly attempted to rape her.

The victim screamed for help and the suspect fled.

Cops are searching for a man who robbed a Bronx deli store clerk at knifepoint last weekend. 

Zanus Gory, 25, entered Clinton Express Deli Corp. in Tremont about 7:15 a.m. on March 16, police said. He went behind the counter, grabbed a knife, threatened the employee and fled on foot with money from the cash register.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5 foot 7 inches tall and weighing 150 lbs.
