City Harvest celebrated the transformation of a South Bronx Associated Supermarket into a Healthy Supermarket with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday afternoon, the organization reported.

As part of City Harvest’s Healthy Neighborhoods initiative, the upgraded supermarket features increased fresh produce and education programs, from cooking to budget shopping.

A food rescue organization serving the city for more than 30 years, City Harvest distributes excess food to New Yorkers for free.

"We wanted to show that it's not just a single inventor who creates something, but really a community that creates the right recipe for an invention," said curator Laurel Fritzsch, who is responsible for for the Bronx portion of the exhibit. Th exhibit, set to open in spring 2015 at the Lemeson Center at the National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. will feature relics like boomboxes, vinyl records, hip hop flyers and videos, as well as a turntable that belonged to Grandmaster Flash and a lamppost powering music systems as a throwback to an old practice of hotwiring streetlamps to power sound equipment. Flash famously created his own crossfader using spare parts. Fritzsch cited this kind of ingenuity as part of the reason for featuring the Bronx in the exhibit. "Modern mixers and a lot of the speakers and sound systems came out of what [early DJs] created," she said. Visitors will also be able to try their hand at scratching and mixing. Grand Wizzard Theodore, credited with inventing scratching said, "I think it's really cool that they're doing something like this." "Scratching plays such a major part in DJing," he said. "It gives you the chance to express yourself, the chance to get into mixing. Police are looking for a man who slashed a livery cab driver’s hand and robbed him in the East Tremont section of the Bronx last week.

The suspect got into the cab at approximately 4:40 a.m. on March 6 at East 181st Street and Southern Boulevard. The man then asked the victim, 68, to stop at East 181st Street and Hughes Avenue. When the car stopped, the suspect slashed the driver’s right hand and demanded money, police said. He fled with an unknown amount of cash.

The victim was treated at St. Barnabas Hospital and released.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.

Two men fired shots at a 22-year-old victim and attempted to rob him inside a 7-Eleven in the Bronx Monday morning.

The armed suspects entered the convenience store located at 1754 University Avenue in Morris Heights at approximately 7 a.m. They demanded money from the male victim and fired their weapons four times.

The suspects may have been chasing the victim, the New York Post reported. An employee of the store herded customers to a back room, saving them from the gunfire, sources told the Post.

No injuries were reported and the suspects fled without any money or property. The investigation is ongoing.
