The couple whose children were murdered last year have a piece of good news – they are expecting a baby.

The city was shocked when Marina and Kevin Krim’s two children were killed, allegedly by their nanny, last fall.

Lucia and Leo Krim were 6 and 2 when they were murdered in their Upper West Side apartment in October.

The couple said yesterday they are expecting a baby boy in the fall, on a page devoted to a fund in honor of their children.

“We are very happy to let you know that Marina is expecting a baby in the fall,” they wrote. “Nessie can’t wait to welcome her new baby brother. We are filled with many emotions as we look to the future, but the most important one is hope.”

The family previously spoke through a website about their grief and healing.

Manhattan students raised enough money through bake sales to save a pit bull.

Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer recognized students and staff from the Stephen Gaynor School in the Upper West Side today for raising money to save the life of pit pull terrier Misty.

Less than a year old, Misty was left badly injured on a Brooklyn street corner after being used as bait to train fighting dogs.

Her rescuers set up a Facebook page for the dog, which the students, ages 10 to 12, noticed.

Their bake sales raised more than $650 to pay for Misty’s veterinary costs.

A Central Park West condo board is not happy with a couple who bragged online about making money off of renting out their apartment on Airbnb.com, DNAinfo reports.

The condo board has gone so far as to bring a suit against the couple in Manhattan Supreme Court accusing Gavin and Jodi Samuels of hosting large Shabbat dinners, cooking classes, and renting out the apartment for over 30 days at a time without board approval.

The board’s lawyers allege that these practices are in violation of the condo’s bylaws .

In January, boardmembers scoured the sites to find the couple had rented out the apartment five times in 2012, usually for under two weeks.

“As usual, we rent out our New York apartment at a premium…it actually pays for us to go away,” Jodi Samuels had on Metroimma, a website for Jewish mothers.

The couple already received a $5,500 fine by the board when they did not heed to a order to stop using the apartment as a bed-and-breakfast.

According to the suit, the couple hosted regular Shabbat cooking class where they charged $15 per person, as well as Shabbat dinners that served around 40 people per meal, at $25 to $30 a head.

The board’s lawyers estimate that adds up to about 1,000 dinner guests per year, and complain of the increased burden that places on the building’s elevators and staff, as well as bothersome foot traffic in the hallways.

The board’s lawyers also reportedly noted that city frowns on subletting apartments through websites like airbnb.com and homeaway.com.

A 68-year-old woman was attacked by a man who tried to rob her inside an elevator in an Upper West Side building Monday.

The suspect followed the victim inside 840 Columbus Ave. shortly before 8 a.m. Once they were inside the elevator, the man attempted to grab the woman’s purse and then punched her in the face, cops said. He fled without any property. The woman was treated at St. Luke’s Hospital.

The suspect is described as a black male in his early 20s, approximately 5-foot-7 with a slim build. He was last seen wearing a blue-and-white hooded Polo jacket with the number 3 on the right shoulder. He was also wearing an orange billed baseball cap and white sneakers.

The nanny accused of killing two children in her care on the Upper West Side was announced mentally fit to stand trial today.

The Manhattan Supreme Court judge in the case said in court this morning that Yoselyn Ortega was ruled able to proceed to a trial in the murder case, according to news reports. 

Ortgea is accused of killing Leo and Lucia Krim in October in a case that shocked the city.

Their mother, arriving home with their third child, found the children dead and the nanny at their Upper West Side home.

Supporters set up a Facebook page to defend Ortega. 

Her lawyer plans to fight the ruling, the New York Post reported.

Ortega last appeared in court in March, where her hearing was adjourned until the psychiatric evaluations were complete.

The Krim family has shared their grief through a website and fund they set up to honor their children.

A 23-year-old Florida man was struck and killed by an A train on the Upper West Side early Thursday morning.

Bobby Legrand Guin, of Mary Esther, Fl., was hit by a northbound A train at approximately 5:14 a.m. at the West 109th Street and Central Park West station, cops said. He was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police officers found some $20 bills in Guin’s hand and on the tracks, leading them to believe that the young man may have dropped the money and jumped down to retrieve it, The Daily News reports.

Guin had moved to New York to pursue a business career, the News reports. His family was notified of his death on Thursday.

A Long Island teen who was celebrating his 18th birthday in Manhattan on Tuesday died after he was struck by an oncoming train at an Upper West Side subway station. 

Liam Armstrong, of Nesconset, was struck by an express 2 train at the 79th Street station when he and his friends were trying to cross the tracks to get to the opposite platform, the New York Post reported.

The young men had exited an Uptown 1 train at the station because they realized they were on the wrong train and needed to head downtown. Instead of exiting the station to get to the other platform, they decided to dash across the tracks. One of the friends made it across safely, and another friend was still on the northbound side of the tracks when Armstrong was struck.

Armstrong suffered a severed leg and died from severe head trauma. He was a student at Smithtown High School East who was expected to graduate this year. His father is a detective sergeant with the Nassau County Police Department.

A nanny accused of killing two children in their Upper West Side apartment appeared in court today.

Yoselyn Ortega was in Manhattan Criminal Court today for a psychiatric hearing.

She arrived in glasses, with hair pulled back and in jail clothes.

The hearing was reportedly adjourned until April 5 because lawyers are still waiting on psychiatric examination results.

Lucia and Leo Krim were killed in October. Their mother found them dead when she arrived at home with another child.

Ortega was their nanny, and prosecutors say she killed them.

The Krim family has since chronicled parts of their lives through a blog, saying they hoped 2013 “will be a year of healing, growth and peace.”

Two men have been charged with kidnapping a woman and forcibly prostituting her for two days until she finally escaped by jumping out of a six-story window, according to the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.

Benjamin Gaston, 36, and Johnny Jackson, 53, have been indicted for raping and sexually assaulting a prostituted woman who they held captive for two days in November.

Gaston brought the victim, 28, to Jackson’s apartment on West 92nd Street around 4 a.m. on Nov. 13. She was then robbed, raped and forced to have sex with multiple men. She called 911 from a phone in the apartment but was not able to relay her location to police.

On the next evening, Gaston brought the woman to another apartment on West 149th Street where several men were waiting. She was locked in the bedroom and told she would be forced to have sex with each of the men. The woman then tried to escape through a window and ended up falling six stories, breaking bones in her back, leg and arm.

“The facts of this crime are truly heinous – these defendants are accused of holding a woman hostage in order to essentially enslave and prostitute her,” said Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. “They are also charged with raping and sexually assaulting her, making her so fearful for her life that she tried to escape from a sixth-floor window.”

The men are charged with kidnapping, rape and sex trafficking, among other charges.

Police are investigating the death of a man, 25, whose body was found in the Hudson River near West 79th Street on Monday.

Police responded to a 9-1-1 call about an unconscious person in the water around 4 p.m. Members of the NYPD Harbor Unit removed the body, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death. Police have not yet released the man’s identity.
