New tables for autumn

Speck Food + Wine

Shola Olunloyo has been called Philadelphia’s best chef without a restaurant for awhile now. But it looks like he’s in need of a new moniker, thanks to Speck Food + Wine (1050 N. Hancock St.) at the Piazza at Schmidt’s. The most buzzed-about aspect of the new restaurant is StudioKitchen, the chef’s counter where diners book online to eat a $120 multi-course tasting that is prepared at the kitchen’s discretion.

The Refinery

This 365-seat restaurant and bar, located in the just-opened SugarHouse Casino (1080 N. Delaware Ave.), serves a menu highlighting build-your-own burgers and classic shakes. Nods to Philly cuisine abound: Sandwiches are served on toasted pretzel rolls and the Caesar salad contains pretzel croutons.

Not to mention …

» JG Domestic: Philadelphia’s “Iron Chef” Jose Garces is getting ready to open his latest, JG Domestic (2929 Arch St.) at the Cira Centre next to 30th Street Station. As its name implies, JG Domestic will be putting the spotlight on artisanal farmers and producers from across the United States who are at the top of their game.
» Baby Blues: Baby Blues (3404 Sansom St.) is a barbecue spot that has earned heaps of praise on the West Coast. The first East Coast location is gearing up for a fall opening, armed with ribs that have been called some of the best in the country.
» Fathom: Mike Stollenwerk — whose Fish restaurant on Lombard Street has received plenty of acclaim — is looking to open Fathom (200 E. Girard Ave.), a seafood-themed bar in Fishtown.
