Bynum gets what he deserves

The Lakers’ Andrew Bynum has been suspended five games and fined $25,000 for his meltdown at the end of Game 4 against the Mavericks.

Bynum elbowed Jose Juan Barea — a former Northeastern standout — to the ground, then tore off his jersey as he walked off the court.

(Waaaah! Waaaaaah!)

Our take: Good. Bynum deserves this — and more — for his actions. The Lakers were in complete baby mode toward the end of the series-clinching blowout, but Bynum took it to a different level.

Nothing against Barea, but the dude’s like 5-foot-2, 125. Bynum could have seriously injured him with the hit he gave. Hell, it would have been an illegal hit in the NHL — where players wear pads and aren’t the size of especially large fourth graders.

"My actions … don’t represent me, my upbringing, this
franchise or any of the Laker fans out there that want to watch us and
want us to succeed," Bynum told reporters. "Furthermore, and more importantly, I
want to actually apologize to J.J. Barea for doing that. I’m just glad
that he wasn’t seriously injured in the event and all I can say is, I’ve
looked at [the replay], it’s terrible and it definitely won’t be
happening again."

Not for the first five games of next season, at least.
