Christmas in July: New video game releases

Expect to spend all your free time trying to conquer this one.

It’s never too early to start looking forward to Christmas, and why not when it comes to these great video game releases, which are set to come out at the end of the year?

‘The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’
Console: PS3/Xbox 360
Release date: Nov. 11
The last outing in this long-running open world adventure series rocked 360 owners way back in 2006. Skyrim promises more of the same kinds of thrills that have captivated fans for years: A huge world to explore, myriad quests to undertake and an almost unlimited amount of character customization. Let’s put grad school off just one more year.
‘The Legend of Zelda:
Skyward Sword’
Console: Nintendo Wii
Release date: the fourth quarter of the year
Link is set to once again rescue Princess Zelda in this forthcoming Wii exclusive. What’s new this time around? In a word, swordplay. Fighting is more realistic than ever thanks to MotionPlus technology. This could be the perfect swan song for the Wii before the new and improved Wii U comes along.

‘Super Mario 3DS’
Console: Nintendo 3DS
Release date: the fourth
quarter of the year
Ever wonder what would happen if “Super Mario Bros 3” and “Super Mario Galaxy” had freaky video game sex and made a 3-D baby? Well, wonder no more. This winter sees Mario’s first 3DS outing, which promises challenging design in a beautifully realized 3-D world. Mario fans rejoice: The raccoon suit is back.
