Rory McIlroy, Caroline Wozniacki: New power couple in sports world

Caroline Wozniacki arrives at the WTA Tour Pre-Wimbledon Party.

The sports world fell in love with 22-year-old golfer Rory McIlroy earlier this year when he played three brilliant rounds at the Masters and then spectacularly collapsed on Sunday.

Then, McIlroy came out and won the US Open … nearly as spectacularly as he failed at Augusta. He was instantly hailed as the “Next Tiger Woods,” except more humble.

You know that Biggie song, ‘Mo Money, Mo Problems?’ McIlroy’s success led to some issues with his longtime girlfriend, and the two were on-and-off prior to last week’s British Open. Guess what McIlroy did Sunday after his final round?

Reportedly, he took a train to go and meet his rumored new girlfriend, the No. 1 tennis player in the world, Caroline Wozniacki.

An intrepid blogger snapped two grainy photos of McIlroy and Wozniacki at a bar and then in the street, but neither’s camp has confirmed or denied the budding romance.

After Greg Norman and Chris Evert, McIlroy and Wozniacki would have to be the second most famous golf-tennis coupling of all time, right?

Britt-ney Spears?
Kenny Britt, the Tennessee Titans wide receiver who leads the NFL in arrests during the lockout with three, attended a Britney Spears concert Monday in Nashville. For whatever reason, he ended up on stage (Britt and Britney, get it? Ha!), and in an ironic twist, was handcuffed to a pole. Britney Spears wrapped a pink boa around Kenny Britt’s shoulders.

If Britt’s looking to rehab his image for whenever his suspension is lifted (and one is coming), why would he go this route? Certainly the concert will be showed when a Titans game is televised this fall.

Big Ben, boozy reception

Ben Roethlisberger is getting married this weekend in Pittsburgh. Yes, the same Pittsburgh Steelers QB who spent the last two summers fending off sexual assault allegations. His new wife will be Ashley Harlan, a
26-year-old who works at a hospital in Pittsburgh.

With the NFL lockout set to end, I imagine the party at the reception will get pretty rowdy. Will James Harrison attend, and if so, will he pack heat? Hey Hines Ward, just remember to call a cab.
