Klinsmann: Develop style, find talent
New U.S. men’s national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann knows what he wants to do with soccer in America.
Establish a style and philosophy that resonates on all levels of the game, from youth to professional.
Oh, and find an all-time great buried somewhere in the country.
Klinsmann was introduced yesterday as the 35th men’s national team coach in U.S. Soccer history. He stressed the importance of strengthening the youth system — and identifying talent in unorthodox places.
“Maybe we can find somebody kicking the ball around the street and develop him, but this will come with time,” he said. “I hope we find a way to find a Lionel Messi in the United States. That would be awesome.”
