Michael Vick: Wait and see, but signs point to yes

No one is saying Mike Vick will start. But, barring any setbacks, it certainly sounds like No. 7 will be given every opportunity to be out on the field Sunday against the Giants.

Vick didn’t wear a helmet yesterday, as he watched practice from the sideline. However, he did participate in the morning walkthrough with the first-team offense. Mike Kafka and Vince Young split the reps in the afternoon.

“I’m going to get them all ready and go, you know, as long as they’re healthy we’ll go with the one who’s the healthiest,” coach Andy Reid said.

Head trainer Rick Burkholder said Vick didn’t have a “whole lot of concussion symptoms” and the results of his impact test were “very, very close” to his baseline. Still, the Eagles are being cautious.
“Just because he doesn’t have symptoms today doesn’t mean he won’t have symptoms tomorrow,” Burkholder said. “You can’t predict.”

Vick’s MRI was negative, but he still has to see and be cleared by an independent neurologist once declared symptom-free. Reid said Vick hadn’t shown any cognitive signs from the concussion.

“I was having no problem with the football part, yeah, no problem at all,” Reid said.

For now, Vick has been green-lighted for exertion tests, including riding a bike, lifting and balance work. His status for Sunday, however, will likely be a game-time decision.

“I’m not real worried about him playing right now,” Burkholder said. “I’m worried about the process that he’s going through, and as we go through each step I’ll report to the people that need to know, and then we’ll make a decision.”
