Bruins vs. Colorado Avalanche: 3 things we saw

Dennis Seidenberg and the B’s were outworked yesterday.

1. “Inconsistent”: That’s how Bruins captain Zdeno Chara described his team’s play during its 1-2-0 run through a season-opening homestand.

The big man sure has a point. The B’s looked like they were suffering through a celebration hangover during last Thursday’s 2-1 loss to the Flyers, then skated circles around the Lightning over the weekend.

Yesterday, though, was right back to flat.

“They want to come in here and prove what they have against us,” Andrew Ference said. “They did that early, and they didn’t stop coming. We didn’t play an awful game, but we didn’t ever really seize control of it.”

2. He’s up to the Rask: If the B’s are going to think about repeating, they’re going to need to spell Tim Thomas from time to time. The 37-year-old isn’t getting any younger, after all.

Good thing, then, that Tuukka Rask is in the fold. The Finnish backstop excelled in his season debut yesterday, stopping everything until Milan Hejduk beat him with a wrister midway through the third.
“You can’t ask for much more than how he played today,” Milan Lucic said.

3. It’s time to wake up: Nathan Horton might as well have been asleep. The rest of the offense didn’t do a whole lot, either.

In all, yesterday was a slow, lazy, un-Bruins-like effort for the Garden crowd. It’s time to start playing 2011-12, not resting on laurels.
