Rob Ryan: Eagles outcoached me
Many, including this intrepid reporter, have credited the Eagles’ 34-7 thrashing of the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football to Rob Ryan. The Cowboys’ brash defensive coordinator just looked lost and had no answers for the Eagles’ high-octane offense.
Ryan, who bragged about the Eagles being “all-hype” last summer, didn’t have his troops prepared for battle. The Eagles’ offensive line man-handled the Cowboys’ heralded defensive line, while gashing their then-No.1-ranked run defense for 239 yards, or more than three times what they had been allowing entering Sunday’s game. LeSean McCoy‘s 185 rushing yards was the most a Dallas defense had allowed in 11 seasons.
“The whole thing is I got outcoached by [Andy] Reid and their staff,” Ryan said Monday. “I mean, it’s ridiculous. I never gave our guys a chance. The whole [expletive] thing was on me. If I gave them any extra motivation, hell, I certainly never backed it up. I gave our guys a lousy plan. We had no chance, and it’s all on me.”
Reid’s team scored on their first six offensive possessions, including three straight touchdowns in the first half.
“Andy Reid was reading my mail,” Ryan said, according to ESPN.com. “He kicked my ass. I’ve just
got to go back and work harder. I’ve got to be smarter than this.
That’s all it comes down to.”
