Can your Facebook profile predict your job performance?
What if Facebook could predict your next job performance? Or whether you’re an productive worker for a potential employee at all?
Well, get ready for your profile to say a whole lot more about you than your favorite books and what you ate on vacation.
The Wall Street Journal reports Facebook could help bosses predict job performances in a new study conducted by Northern Illinois University, the University of Evansville and Auburn University.
The experiment had three raters look at the Facebook pages of 56 working college students and ask questions such like “Is this person dependable?” and “How emotionally stable is this person?”
The students’ personalities were also rated through their photos, wall posts, comments, educations and hobbies.
After six months, researchers compared job evaluations to the ratings and found strong connections between a student’s job performance and the Facebook scores for traits such as conscientiousness, agreeability and intellectual curiosity.
For example, students who had traveled, had lots of Facebook friends and had a wide range of hobbies and interests received favorable evaluations. Raters found that students with partying pics tended to be extroverted and friendly.
