Ben & Jerry’s apologizes for racist Jeremy Lin flavor
That’s how the fortune cookie crumbles.
Vermont-based ice cream company Ben & Jerry’s apologized for their limited edition, Jeremy Lin-spired treat after it caused a racist backlash.
The flavor, “Taste the Lin-Sanity,” featured crumbled fortune cookies along with lychee honey swirls and a frozen yogurt vanilla base.
“Taste the Lin-Sanity” hit freezers last week, but just days after, the fortune cookies left customers with a bad taste. The company issued an apology on Friday via its Facebook page.
“We offer a heartfelt apology if anyone was offended by our handmade Lin-Sanity flavor,” the company said in a statement. “Our intention was to create a flavor to honor Jeremy Lin’s accomplishments and his meteoric rise in the NBA, and recognize that he was a local Harvard graduate.”
The fortune cookies have since been replaced with waffle pieces.
