The Newark Star-Ledger reported today that former Giants running back Brandon Jacobs is allegedly being investigated for involvement in a high-speed caravan of sports cars that were escorted by New Jersey police to Atlantic City.

The group of a couple dozen cars included Porsches, Ferraris and Lamborghinis traveling down the Garden State Parkway in excess of 100 mph while being escorted by two state troopers with flashing lights. The cars apparently had their license plates taped over.

The incident occurred on March 30, just two days after Jacobs signed with the San Francisco 49ers for one year and $2 million.

Jacobs is a big car guy and has spoken at length about his collection. After being booed during the Giants’ Week 8 win against Miami, Jacobs commented he had nothing positive to say except for getting a “fast-a–” car delivered that week.

Jacobs’s agent Justin Schulman confirmed Jacobs was part of a group that went to Atlantic City on March 30, though he didn’t expressly say he was part of the group of cars, as the Ledger is reporting a source confirmed.

“This is a very serious and disturbing matter for a couple of reasons but particularly in terms of the disregard for public safety by all those allegedly involved,” said Michael Drewniak, a spokesman for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

One witness, who said he was nearly driven off the road by two Lamborghinis, termed it “Death Race 2012.”
