Monday MLB pickups

Sometimes, guys with no pedigree get hot at the beginning of a season and we jump to conclusions too early. If the same player went off for a week in the middle of the season, we’d brush it off as a fluke. However, Nolan Reimold certainly has some pedigree as he tops this week’s list of the top fantasy baseball adds:

1. Nolan Reimold, OF, Orioles: Reimold is a former second-round pick that had 13 homers and seven steals in just 87 games last year. The Orioles actually have a pretty decent lineup and their home park plays well for hitters. Reimold is in his prime at age 28.

2. Cody Ross, OF, Red Sox: I mentioned Ross while discussing Jacoby Ellsbury’s injury last week. Ross packs a lot of punch into his 5’10/193 frame, as evidenced by his 103 homers in just 771 career games. He’ll play every day while Ellsbury sits.

3. Jarrod Parker, SP, Athletics: I discussed Parker before the season when we talked about prospects close to the bigs. Simply put, Parker is one of the best pitching prospects in the game and he calls Oakland’s pitcher-friendly park home. There’s a lot of upside here as he’ll start on Wednesday.

4. Jon Rauch, RP, Mets: Frank Francisco has been nothing short of awful so far this season. If he loses his job, Rauch has experience closing and will be right there to pick up the pieces.

5. Chris Nelson, 3B, Rockies: This is for the extreme deep leaguers. Jordan Pacheco has been sent down to work on his defense, so Nelson is the last man standing at third base. He plays at Coors, so he’s worth a look.
