Rangers stave off elimination with Game 6 win
The Rangers’ future saved the Rangers’ present.
Derek Stepan finished with three points and Chris Kreider scored his first NHL goal in the Rangers’ 3-1 win over the Senators in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals series Monday night.
Brad Richards had a goal and an assist. Henrik Lundqvist made 25 saves.
The series is tied 3-3. Game 7 is Thursday night at the Garden.
Stepan ended Craig Anderson’s shutout streak at 145:37 with a second period power play goal that tied the game at 1-1.
Richards’ 5-on-3 power play laser over Anderson’s stick put them up, 2-1. Kreider snapped a laser with 40 seconds left in the period to push the Rangers’ lead to 3-1. It would be the eventual game-winner.
