The New York Jets are asking for draft advice online

Vernon Gholston poses for a photo after being selected as the sixth overall pick by the New York Jets with National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell during the 2008 NFL Draft on April 26, 2008 at Radio City Music Hall in New York, New York.

It’s draft day, which means 31 NFL teams have finalized their boards, decided what sort of “character issues” they can and can’t live with, and have some sense of the general strategy they’ll use tonight. (“I think I might trade down this year,” says Bill Belichick.)

The 32nd team is the New York Jets.

Like procrastinating students at the end of the semester, the Jets went online this afternoon — mere hours before the draft was to take place — to crowdsource ideas for a draft strategy. On a post on Reddit’s r/NFL board, the team asked fans to help them out because this spring’s been totally crazy and the deadline really snuck up on them:

What would you do with our (Jets) first round pick?

For that matter, what would you do with all our picks?

As of this writing, the top-rated suggestion is “Draft another QB for the lulz.”

The team probably will try to play off their last-minute desperation as some sort of web 2.0 “community engagement” plan, but let’s be real: If you had the draft history the Jets had, wouldn’t asking random people on the Internet for help actually seem like a solid plan?
