Devils launch #noblue to keep Rangers fans out; Has it backfired?

You Devils, you!

Rangers fans, you’re not welcome in Jersey.

That’s the message the Devils are sending to New York Rangers fans.

The Devils, who are down 0-1 in Eastern Conference Finals, have launched an online campaign to try and convince New Jersey fans not to sell their tickets on secondary markets to Rangers fans.

Game 2 of the series is scheduled for tomorrow night, but games three and four will be held in Newark on Saturday and Monday, at the Prudential Center, nicknamed by locals “The Rock.”

The Devils say they want to prevent Rangers fans from infiltrating The Rock, filling the New Jersey arena with their signature blue for the upcoming games.

According to reports, on the Devils website the team even directed fans how to sell their tickets only to other Devils fans, and #noblue is trending on Twitter. Rangers fans have responded with #beyondpitiful to mock the marketing ploy.

Here’s what the Devils are advising their fans to do:

1. If you own seats and have to sell for any of the home games because of conflicts, do NOT list your seats on the secondary market. Blogs such as Fire and Ice, In Lou We Trust, and HFBoards provide you with outlets to speak directly with other Devils fans who are looking for seats. This will ensure you are selling ONLY to other Devils fans.

“You can ask for pictures or meet them to deliver tickets, to ensure where their loyalty lies,” the Devils write. Yes, it’s gotten that serious, folks.

2. If you are unsure about conversing on Devils blogs to sell your tickets, you can call the Devils Fan Experience Team line at 855-DEV-ARMY, and as a service they will help you sell your seats you can’t use, to other Devils fans.

The team is also (not surprisingly) encouraging Devils fans to buy up all the tickets they can for this weekend’s games:

3. If you do not own seats already, visit secondary market ticket sales websites including Ticket Exchange to purchase your tickets immediately. Thousands of seats still remain for both Rangers home games at The Garden. Therefore, there is a window right NOW, for Devils fans to swallow up all the remaining tickets for the upcoming Devils home games at the Rock. Seize that opportunity now while it is still available.

It appears the link has now been taken down by the Devils — perhaps after they were mocked for the home-team marketing strategy.
