The future is now for the Celtics

Avery Bradley is one of the young players that the Celtics could shop for a big-name superstar.

1. Re-sign KG
We learned a lot about the 2011-12 Boston Celtics: Their resiliency, their heart, their willingness to work, and the fact that they do have a lot of basketball left in them.

Nobody embodies all of those things more than Kevin Garnett, who is now an unrestricted free agent. Garnett could retire, but if the C’s approach him with a contract and plan to remain contenders, he might bite. With Dwight Howard under contract with Orlando, Garnett very well could be the best available big man in this year’s free agent class.

The C’s have a huge advantage because they have the money to spend this summer and Garnett seemingly now loves Boston.

2. More BIGS
Going into next season, the C’s have just one big man under contract, JaJuan Johnson, and another due a $1.03 million qualifying offer, Greg Stiemsma.

We already talked about KG returning, but as we saw this season, the C’s were beaten badly when he was out of the game. If Garnett is to return, he can’t play 35 to 40 minutes as he was in the 2012 postseason. So who is out there to help?

Chris Wilcox could be back on short money. How about Mr. Kardashian himself, Kris Humphries? Other options are New Orleans’ Carl Landry and Chris Kaman — and don’t forget the draft, as Boston has the 21st and 22nd picks in a deep field.A one-year deal would be ideal for both sides.

3. Rondo’s team
It’s been said numerous times: “The torch has been passed to Rajon Rondo.”

This time, it’s for real.

It was Rondo who established himself as the best player on the Celtics in the postseason.

Yes, KG was probably more consistent, but Rondo showed that he should be talked about as one of the best guards in the league. It’s time for the C’s to stop shopping him, and instead find pieces that compliment his game. They’ll certainly need a shooter like a Ray Allen (good luck finding a young one of that quality), but the C’s need to bring in guys that can run with Rondo and Avery Bradley on the break.
