Week 1 Fallout

For those that follow this blog, the weekly article in Metro, or my Twitter account, Week 1 went well. Many of our “guys” had big days. Let’s note some takeaways to be aware of as we look to Week 2:

* Mark Ingram doesn’t play on passing downs. So when the Saints fall behind big, he’s just not going to see the rock very much.

* Pierre Garcon had 104 yards in the first quarter and then left with a foot injury. Either way, RG3 is for real. Yes, the wait on a QB strategy is working out already.

* Last year, it was Matthew Stafford and Julio Jones. This year, it’s Matt Ryan and Julio Jones. As stated before, I’d be surprised if Jones wasn’t fantasy’s No. 2 wideout this year. The Chiefs didn’t have Brandon Flowers (heel) today, but I’m not sure it would have mattered.

* Again, Michael Turner doesn’t fit in this offense. Dump him on the trade market before it’s too late.

* Brandon Weeden turned in one of the worst quarterbacking performances in recent memory. It’s a major concern for Trent Richardson because defenses can just stack the box.

* LeSean McCoy’s game today is the absolute floor. He got hurt by penalties and lack of red-zone chances against the Browns. If healthy, he’s a lock for top-3 RB status weekly.

* Chris Johnson’s first game of 2012 was a lot like his 2011 season. Very, very scary. I’d give it another week though — don’t sell as low as possible here.

* I’m not buying the Jets’ breakout at all. Expect that to be Mark Sanchez’s best game of the year.

* Fred Jackson went down with a sprained LCL and C.J. Spiller proceeded to go off. Sound familiar? Spiller might be the better back anyway.

* Adrian Peterson looked really good. Color me surprised. I don’t think he’s out of the woods yet, but so far it’s good value for owners.

* Matt Forte is not the Bears’ goal-line back, but we already knew that. He still has a ton of value, so everyone needs to breathe on the Michael Bush situation.

* Anyone have any more questions about Doug Martin’s usage? He’s a three-down back in the vein of Ray Rice. Big-time PPR upside.

* DeAngelo Williams’ usage was really confusing considering Jonathan Stewart’s ankle injury. The Panthers seem to have lost confidence him as Mike Tolbert got more reps. Expect Stewart back to carry the load next week.

* I wouldn’t worry too much about Green Bay’s relative lack of offense. That San Fran defense is really something.

* Stevan Ridley was one of our favorites here and you saw why Sunday. He runs with power and is versatile. He’s going to be a force with the Patriots playing from ahead so often.
