Darrelle Revis returns to practice

Revis is “the best corner in football and it’s not even close,” according to his coach.

After seeing their secondary struggle last Sunday, the Jets seem likely to receive a boost with the return of Darrelle Revis this weekend. Head coach Rex Ryan said Revis has made progress from a concussion that caused him to miss the Jets’ Week 2 loss in Pittsburgh.

Revis suffered a concussion in the fourth quarter of the Jets’ season opening blowout win of the Bills. He was cleared for physical activity at the middle point of last week, but did not practice with the team and did not travel for the 27-10 loss at Pittsburgh.

“[He] has not been cleared for contact, [but he] has been cleared for practice. We’ll see how that progresses,” Ryan said.

In his absence, the Jets started former first-round pick Kyle Wilson opposite of Antonio Cromartie.

Without Revis, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger went 24-of-31 for 275 yards and two touchdowns. Perhaps Revis couldn’t have done much as 10 different Pittsburgh receivers had a catch and four of Roethlisberger’s targets had multiple receptions, but there is no question the team missed him.

Ryan also noted that several players would not practice Wednesday, including reserve offensive lineman Dennis Landolt and several key players such as tight end Dustin Keller, fullback John Conner and linebacker Bryan Thomas. He wasn’t prepared to rule out any of the three starters yet for this week’s game in Miami.

Keller and Thomas did not play against the Steelers and Conner was taken out of the game in the second quarter with a knee injury.

“We’ll see and I really [don’t have] a definitive answer from our trainers yet” Ryan said. “Hopefully these guys will progress.”
