Why use a serum?
At the recent launch of La Prairie’s Cellular Power Serum, the latest in their acclaimed age-fighting Cellular Power collection, we asked Amanda Macino, National Director of Training for the luxury brand, what exactly is the point of serums?
“Serums are the most powerful part of your skincare routine,” says Macino. “A serum has small molecules that absorb into skin and reach the areas where creams can’t reach. They’ll make the products you apply after, like your face cream, work better and last longer,” she says. “Think of your face cream like your gym membership and your serum like your trainer. You will see results with both, but with a trainer you’ll get targeted results, you’ll see faster results, and it will make your overall gym membership more effective.”
La Prairie Cellular Power Serum, $475
As we get older and our skin loses energy, this super serum helps to reboost skin cells and stimulate our skin’s own natural antioxidants, “which are stronger than any other antioxidants that you can get from an outside source,” explains Macino. Those natural antioxidants then protect skin against future signs of aging caused by environment factors.
Neutrogena Ageless Intensives Anti-Wrinkle Deep Wrinkle Serum $19
This drugstore brand packs a powerful punch and can hold its own against more expensive counterparts. The multi-vitamin serum boosts skin with a high dose of anti-oxidants to help fight skin-damaging free radicals and reduced wrinkles.
