Playing the Field: Samantha Steele dates Christian Ponder
What is up with bad quarterbacks dating beautiful women?
Matt Leinart has done more to damage the credibility of female sports fans than any other person on Earth. Leinart alone has dated Paris Hilton, Aly Michalka and Kristin Cavallari. I know he went to USC ladies, but come on. Watch a football game. Don’t embarrass yourself.
The next QB in line is Christian Ponder, who is now reportedly dating ESPN reporter Samantha Steele. To be fair, Ponder is actually playing surprisingly well this season (68.6 completion percentage, eight touchdowns, four interceptions, 92.4 QB rating), but not that well. Not dating Samantha Steele well.
I’d never heard of Steele until she got the “College Gameday” gig this season, but she’s quickly approaching Erin Andrews territory.
Ponder was asked about the relationship after practice on Thursday and he responded how most incredibly rich men dating incredibly beautiful public figures respond, “Really? This is a big deal? I mean, look at me, I’m awesome.”
OK, maybe that’s not what he actually said. But this is:
“There’s been a thousand articles today about it,” Ponder said. “You can’t really worry about it. You’ve got to try to keep it private, but that’s just part of the industry, part of the job. I don’t know. Comes with the territory.
“I’m proud of the relationship,” Ponder said, smiling. “I can brag. I’ve got bragging rights, I believe.”
Ponder has already taken to mocking his significant other on Twitter, so you know it’s serious.

How cute. I hate him.
Ryan Lochte is (still) stupid
Remember the London Olympics? “Sorta.” Remember Ryan Lochte? “The dumb swimmer dude?”
Well Lochte made an appearance on “College Gameday” yesterday (that show with Sam Steele) and proceeded to make himself look dumber than ever.
Lochte was the celebrity picker and was asked who he thought would win the LSU vs. Texas A&M game. So of course he picked … Auburn.
But at least he said it with confidence. And hey, LSU did win the game.
