Carroll: Edwards won’t be ready to play for weeks
Newly acquired wide receiver Braylon Edwards may not be able to help the Jets until the postseason, should his new team make it that far.
Edwards was acquired off waivers by the Jets on Tuesday after being released by the Seahawks following a disappointing season where he has been limited to 10 games this season. A knee injury has slowed him down earlier in the year and now a hamstring injury might derail the rest of the season.
The Jets, currently 6-7 after a season best two-game winning streak, are the No. 8 seed in the AFC and are on the outside looking in as far as the playoffs.
“We thought he had a three-week injury or so and it’d be a while till he gets back,” Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said on Wednesday. “We weren’t sure he’d make it back. I hope he’s [good] to go.”
So far this year, Edwards has just eight catches for 74 yards and one touchdown. His season total of receptions is currently No. 11 among all Jets wide receivers on the roster.
Carroll didn’t sound optimistic that Edwards, a star with the Jets in 2009 and 2010, would make an impact this season. It is a puzzling twist for the Jets who brought him in to make an impact for a receiving corps that has been depleted.
“I’m hoping he’s well. He’s going to be right at the cusp of getting back from what we understand with his [hamstring]. He’ll be a good player for them,” Carroll said. “He’s a good football player. Hopefully he can get back and get well.”
