Carmelo Anthony suspended one game for Garnett incident

Carmelo Anthony didn’t believe he deserved any suspension for his off-court incident with Kevin Garnett. The NBA disagreed on Wednesday.

Anthony was hit with a one-game suspension for reportedly heading to the Celtics locker room following Monday night’s loss and trying to confront Garnett. He was restrained, but later shouted at Garnett outside the team bus and had to be held back by security.

Anthony and Garnett traded jabs much of the game — both verbal and physical. Some wrestling in the post in the fourth quarter, and the resulting words, resulted in both players receiving technical fouls.

Anthony did not speak to reporters after the game, but at practice on Tuesday said he just wanted to speak to Garnett and did not believe the incident merited NBA involvement.

“Nothing happened for me to be suspended,” Anthony said. “I just wanted to talk to KG. … No altercations. It was just some words and a conversation that we needed to have.”

Anthony said Garnett crossed a line, reportedly talking about his wife, Lala, during the game.

“There’s certain things that you just don’t say to another man,” said Anthony on Tuesday. “I felt like he crossed a line, but like I said, we both handled it the way we handled it. … Nobody needs to know what was said behind closed doors, [but] that situation was handled.”

The Knicks forwars said he cleared the air with Garnett via a late-night phone conversation after the game.
