BREAKING NEWS: Bynum practices, Whisenhunt interviews with Birds

The Eagles added another name to the list: Ken Whisenhunt.

The team announced that the former Cardinals head coach interviewed for the Birds’ vacant head coaching gig Monday morning. Whisenhunt was fired Dec. 31 after Arizona went 5-11 for the second time in three seasons. He did guide the Cardinals to the Super Bowl in 2008, beating the Eagles in the NFC championship game.

Whisenhunt is the fourth former NFL head coach to interview for the job. The Eagles also met with Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden Monday and are scheduled to see Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians Tuesday. Eleven different candidates have met with the Eagles’ front office.

Bynum back in action

Andrew Bynum was at Sixers practice Monday where he took jump shots and did some light running. The injured center sounded upbeat when he addressed the media and indicated that he could return after the All-Star break (Feb. 15-17).

“I woke up today and I’m ready to workout, so that’s good,” Bynum said. “I’ve been sitting around waiting, I feel good, so the waiting is over. I’m getting ready to play.”

Bynum admitted that he still isn’t running at full speed on the basketball court, but he has been rehabbing on the treadmill and lifting weights. He has yet to test his lateral movement or his sprinting and stopping speed.

“I’m coming along well,” he said. “I’m up to running now on the [anti-gravity treadmill], steady at an eight-mile-an-hour clip for 20 minutes, so that’s good.”

There is no timetable for Bynum’s return, but this is the first good sign in months. The sight of him on an actual basketball court is very encouraging.
