Eagles Notebook: Getting to know Gus Bradley

Will Bradley be the next coach of the Eagles? He was in town Tuesday for a lengthy interview with the team's brass.

For a few minutes Gus Bradley’s Wikipedia entry had him listed as the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. Soon — after a brief stint Tuesday night as head coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers — it was changed back to defensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks.

For now, as of 9 p.m. Tuesday, that’s all we know for sure. Bradley’s plane touched down in Northeast Philadelphia (his flight was diverted there) around 2:30 p.m., then he was whisked away to Jeffrey Lurie’s Main Line mansion for a lengthy interview, one lasting at least six hours.

Bradley’s agent was reportedly not present, so maybe the two sides aren’t as close to a deal as everyone had been speculating. Since Seattle was eliminated from postseason play last weekend, the Eagles could make him an immediate offer. The coach has an interview with the Jaguars scheduled for Wednesday in Jacksonville.

Either way, Bradley has quickly emerged as the Eagles’ top candidate — and he’s been getting ringing endorsements from all those that know him well.

“He’s got a great work ethic, he’s got a brilliant football mind,” Seattle head coach Pete Carroll said last week of Bradley. “He’s got a way of reaching people and touching people and getting the best out of them—coaches and players alike. He’s got everything that you’re looking for and we’re fortunate.”

If all the hype is true, then Carroll might only be fortunate for a few more days … or hours.
