Fashion and beauty dream teams

Are designers turning their backs to fashion to focus on beauty?

Last week, Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz announced he’s doing a make-up line with beauty brand Lancôme. Azzedine Alaïa was quick to follow suit, revealing he’d signed a beauty license with Beauté Prestige International, for his first fragrance set to hit the stores in 2015.

This news prompted us to wonder just how much cooler the makeup aisles would be if our favorite designers launched beauty lines of their own.So we came up with a wish list of those we’d love to see branch out into the business:

Miuccia Prada:
Her playful use of encrusted gems and sparkles juxtaposed against bold colors has the fashion world gushing. We hope she branches out into bottles of nail varnish, in say, shades of forest green, bubble gum pink or canary yellow to brighten up our fingertips. And give us an excuse to indulge in some nail bling. Miu Miu manicure anyone?

Alexander Wang
His casual, weathered style embodies cool women worldwide. We bet a perfume bearing his name would soon become an everyday favorite — something fresh and edgy you would lavishly spray on, whether you’ve just rolled out of bed, or are getting ready for a night on the town.

Proenza Schouler
With their acute attention to detail, a make-up line by duo, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, would most likely be based around creating structure and definition to the face through the use of directional colors. We’re guessing their collection would go something like this: emerald green eyeliner, electric blue mascara, taupe eye shadow, crimson blush and cherry red lips.

Rodarte
The Mulleavy sisters’ ethereal and romantic style would appeal to more discreet ladies who wear make-up in order to look naturally flawless — and pretty. Think rosy cheeks, nude lips and dreamy eye shadows in hues of dusty rose or washed out gold. We can already picture Kate Bosworth and Kirsten Dunst squabbling over who should be the brand’s beauty ambassador.

Vivienne Westwood
She’s already dabbled with perfume — but we think there’s no one better than the confident, mouthy Viv to launch a new line of lipsticks. Who’d buy? Bohemian babes unafraid to make a statement. We’d vote for bold, vibrant shades of red, fuchsia pink or plum.
