Twisted Lily

Dive into a pond of rosewater, rest under a pear tree or enjoy a flashback to freshly cut grass from your childhood at Twisted Lily, a new fragrance boutique in Brooklyn, where they take the time to find the exact fragrance for you.

“We narrow in on a particular fragrance type that [a customer] likes — whether it be something floral, woody or musky — and we zoom in on five different fragrances that might fit that category, and we start going over them one by one,” says co-owner Eric Weiser of the process.

He links finding the right fragrance to finding your personal soundtrack.

“If you can make that soundtrack or that aura, what would you like it to smell like? What would you like people to remember you by?” he asks.

Twisted Lily features local perfumers and international brands, as well as exclusives to the area.

“Niche fragrances are based on the artistry,” Weiser says. “I have to know the story behind what’s in the bottle.”

Two of Weiser’s picks:

Maison Dorin, Un Air De Damas. $250
“This brand was the official purveyor to the Court of Versailles.”

Slimberhouse, Pear + Olive, $125
“This scent took the perfumer three months under a pear tree to invent.”

Juniper Ridge
If you need an escape from city life, fragrance maker Juniper Ridge’s Williamsburg pop-up shop at Fellow Barber might be for you. The company makes natural scents from real plants, bark, moss and mushrooms found hiking in the backcountry. At the pop-up, visitors will find a “transporter booth” that takes them to wilderness destinations through fragrance, including the coastal hills of Big Sur, Topanga Canyon and Death Valley. They will also demonstrate distillations, part of the perfume-making process.

Now through Dec. 21
101 N. Eighth St., Brooklyn

Kilian's prices range from $115 for a travel set to $295 for their Arabian Nights/Oud Collection.

Kilian
This November, luxury fragrance brand Kilian will open its second retail store in the Meatpacking District. In honor of the launch the brand has created a special fragrance named Apple Brandy — “apple” for New York and “brandy” for creator Kilian Hennessy’s childhood in the Hennessy cellars (he’s the heir to the cognac brand). The perfume will be sold exclusively at the boutique and online.

Open from November
