The Word: Susan Sarandon’s having a ball

Sarandon showed off her skills on Friday while in East Hampton.

Susan Sarandon’s love of all things pingpong is well-documented (she’s an investor at SPiN, a pingpong parlor located in New York’s Flatiron district). But she still claims she’s an average player and not cutthroat at all — a fact that really hit home during a recent trip to China.

“Not at all,” she said when asked if she were a competitive player. “I just played recently in China, and it was the most traumatizing thing. First of all, I had no idea what was going on. Second of all, I’m not competitive. I’m shy.”

Is it pingpong that keeps the svelte 64-year-old in such great shape? Maybe!  “It’s really good exercise, it’s great for the brain, it relieves stress,” she told Metro on Friday while at an an event at Grey Goose vodka’s Blue Door series with SPiN. “They’ve been doing tests on Alzheimer’s  and really recommend [that patients] practice to work on right brain/left brain coordination.”

Now if only we city-dwellers had enough room for a pingpong table …

The J. Lo divorce is getting ugly

The “amicable” part of Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony’s split is apparently done, as the inevitable custody battle has reportedly gotten under way with Lopez looking for sole custody of their twins, according to Us Weekly. “They are always with their mom. Jennifer lights up around her kids. She’s incredible, balancing work and being a good mom,” a source says.

The youth shall inherit the Twitter

Well, here’s something that is going to make you feel old: The top actresses ranked by their Klout score (a measure of how much online influence people have) are Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus and Bella Thorne. As the Huffington Post points out, the average age of these tweeters is a ripe 17. The HuffPo then had Ad.ly, a company that pays celebrities to tweet on behalf of brands, compile a second list of the most influential tweeters when it comes to people buying what they mention. The winner? Lindsay Lohan. Lohan, an actress who is less successful than Tara Reid in landing a movie gig. And there you have it: The world really is a vampire.
