Casey Anthony will just have to self-publish

Anthony.

Although Casey Anthony is seeking at least $1.5 million from television networks interested in getting her first interview, TMZ.com reports that book publishers are saying an emphatic “no way” to buying any memoir from the acquitted murderer. The site reports an NBC producer is trying to score a book deal for the “tot mom” — because if Anthony grants interviews, having a book to tie them to will greatly increase Anthony’s income. But now it looks like it’s not going to happen. Sad! Here are a few of the book publishers’ public statements:

Simon and Schuster:  “We are 100% not interested.  We are NOT NOT NOT  interested. Simon & Schuster is not publishing, and has never intended to publish, any book by Casey Anthony, her family, or any member of her team.”

Harper Collins: “We are planning on publishing the Prosecutor’s book who was involved in the Casey Anthony case, so we have no plans in releasing a Casey Anthony book.  We’re sticking with the prosecutor.”

Penguin Group:  “We have no plans on doing a book deal with Casey Anthony.”

However, it looks like taking the same moral high ground doesn’t work for the publishers in the case of Amanda Knox, who was dramatically acquitted of the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher earlier this month; book publishers are knocking down Knox’s door to sign her up for a book contract. The grandmother of Knox told The Telegraph earlier this month that publishers approached her family, even before Knox returned to the US. “I had an insane man come to me yesterday to talk to me about book deals,” Huff said. “What an insane idea. That is totally crazy, the girl was not even home yet, we didn’t know if she was even going to get out of there. It was after the verdict. He knocked on the door and wanted to discuss book deals and media deals.”

In a recent Los Angeles Times poll, readers voted for Knox to not only get a book deal, but to also earn at least $1 to $2 million for it.
