Will Nick Lachey take over for Regis?

Kelly Ripa and Nick Lachey (wearing stilts) when they hosted "LIVE!" last month.

There is still no word on who will replace the venerable Regis Philbin on his former talk show (now just entitled “LIVE! With Kelly”) but Hollyscoop.com has an idea: Nick Lachey.

The site asked the frequent guest co-host of the show if he would be interested in the up-for-grabs gig and Lachey was nothing if not diplomatic: “Well, first of all, no one takes Regis’s spot,” Lachey told Hollyscoop at the “Sing Off Live” finale, “Regis is an absolute legend of our industry and he cannot be replaced, that’s first and foremost. But that situation if it ever was an option for me to dive into, I would welcome that opportunity.”

As the site points out, Ripa and Lachey do have a nice rapport on the show (last month the two dressed up as Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries for their Halloween episode). But just because a site asks someone if they would like one of the hottest jobs in Hollywood right now and they say yes, doesn’t mean Lachey is first in line for the gig. This week’s cohost is Neil Patrick Harris, which could be very juicy. Let’s hope “LIVE! With Kelly” keeps up the frequently rotating guest hosts; it’s a lot of fun to see these guys “audition.” Plus, Kelly Ripa can hold her own; does she really need a co-host?
