The Word: Demi out of hospital; whippets to blame

This is a hard one to really believe: The substance that reportedly put Demi Moore in the hospital was nitrous oxide, a gas most commonly used in dentist’s offices and whipped cream cans that is also popular on the concert tailgating scene, according to TMZ. A friend of Moore’s reportedly called 911 after the actress had an adverse reaction to a “whippet,” a small canister of nitrous oxide that can be inhaled. But friends say the most recent incident — which landed Moore in rehab — was just the latest in a long downward slide. “Really, it was over the last year her friends saw a change,” the source tells People magazine. “She wasn’t sleeping as well, didn’t seem to be eating and looked really gaunt.”

Whatever it was, Moore was released from the hospital yesterday. There’s no word on her next steps. But let’s hope she’ll take better care of herself — and will stay clear of any Disco Biscuit concerts in the near future.

Tequlia even makes letters more interesting

Can I have a “D”? What about an “R”?” “U-N-K?”

There’s a reason Pat Sajak and Vanna White were able to act excited every time a correct letter was guessed on “The Wheel of Fortune”: They were sloshed.

On ESPN’s “Dan Le Batard is Highly Questionable” radio show on Tuesday, Sajak told the host that back in the ’80s, he and Vanna would down margaritas between shows and then stumble back to the set.

“Vanna and I would … have two or three or six and then come and do the last shows and have trouble recognizing the alphabet. They’re really good tapes to get ahold of. I had a great time,” Sajak said. “I have no idea if the shows were any good, but no one said anything, so I guess I did OK.”

But rest assured. Now that he’s been hosting for more than 30 years (and is 65 years old) he’s not on the sauce while handing out cars and cash prizes. “I would be hesitant to have anything to drink now,” he said.

So, now that we understand how Pat and Vanna got through the drudgery that is daily game show hosting back in the day, does anyone else wonder what Alex Trebek is on? Whippets? Or is that just Demi Moore’s game?
