The Word: More on Whitney Houston’s death

Whitney Houston

Details continue to come out about the cause of Whitney Houston’s untimely death at the age of 48 on Saturday.

Though authorities are not confirming anything other than she was found in the bathtub, TMZ.com now reports the cause of death was from an overdose of Xanax and liquor, which may have led to a deadly heart attack.  According to the site, coroner officials informed the family that there was not enough water in Whitney’s lungs for a drowning as was initially assumed. Officials believe she passed away before her head became submerged in water, though the official toxicology report won’t be complete for four to six weeks.

Although earlier reports say that her stylist, hairdresser and two bodyguards were among those who found Houston underwater, reports now say it was her aunt Mary Jones who discovered Houston’s body. TMZ.com says Houston had apparently been in the bathroom for more than an hour when Jones went in to check on her. Upon seeing Houston, Jones pulled the singer out of the tub and started CPR. RadarOnline.com reports that her body was probably under water for 30 minutes and the autopsy shows that her body had no “obvious signs of trauma, but her throat appeared to be inflamed upon examination.”

NBC New York reports that once Houston’s body is released to her family, it will be flown to Newark, N.J., on the private plane of Tyler Perry. There, Whigham Funeral Home  — which handled the funeral for Houston’s father and for Anne Drinkard Moss, the sister of Houston’s mother Cissy Houston — will be handling the arrangements.

Bobby Brown flies to be with Bobbi Kristina

It’s about time: Houston’s ex-husband, Bobby Brown, has finally flown to Los Angeles to be with his 18-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina, who’s been hospitalized twice in the wake of her mother’s death. Although there is no concrete information for why, RadarOnline reports that it might be the same culprit that killed her mother. “She tried to ease the pain of losing her mother by having a few alcoholic drinks. She was distraught, on the verge of a complete breakdown. Not knowing what to do, members of her mother’s entourage tried to calm her down with a sedative,” a source says. The mixture of alcohol and drugs caused Brown to then collapse.
