Just how long was Jessica Simpson pregnant?

Jessica Simpson at the 2012 Winter TCA Tour.

Although Jessica Simpson didn’t have the longest pregnancy in the world, it certainly felt like she did. There was a website dedicated to the seemingly-endless gestation. Celebrities even weighed in, with Katy Perry remarking on Twitter, “Has Jessica Simpson had that baby yet? I’m getting anxious” and Chelsea Handler quipping she’s “getting frightened” that Simpson was pregnant for so long.

Well, the eternal wait ended today with Simpson and her fiancé Eric Johnson announcing the birth (finally!) of her daughter, Maxwell Drew Johnson, on her website.

“Eric and I are elated to announce the birth of our baby girl, Maxwell Drew Johnson,” she wrote. “We are grateful for all the love, support and prayers we have received. This has been the greatest experience of our lives!!”

The baby was certainly well-marinated, weighing in at 9 lbs. 13 oz. But lest Maxwell Drew get all of the attention, let’s look at what other famous folk were able to pop out a baby without this much fanfare while we were all fixated on Simpson’s ever-expanding waistline:

Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard welcomed daughter Gloria Ray on Thursday, April 19 in New York City, her rep confirmed to E! News. Gyllenhaal announced her pregnancy in November; Simpson confirmed her pregnancy in October on Twitter after she couldn’t sell the news to a publication since her unmistakable baby bump gave her pregnancy away as early as two months.

Katherine Heigl and husband Josh Kelley expanded their family and adopted another daughter, according to People magazine. “Yes they have adopted a baby,” Heigl’s rep confirmed last week. “No further details [are available] at this time.”

It was announced in March that Charlize Theron adopted a baby, her rep confirmed to People magazine. “She is the proud mom of a healthy baby boy named Jackson,” her rep says, though further details on the adoption aren’t available. A source close to the Oscar-winning actress says it’s something Theron “has been trying to adopt a baby for a long time.”

Simpson’s ex, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and his wife Candice Crawford welcomed their first child on April 9, his NFL teammates confirmed on Twitter. “Congratulations to Tony Romo, proud papa of Hawkins Crawford Romo, born yesterday at 5:30pm. 8lbs 8 oz,” the Dallas Cowboys Twitter read.

The only birth to overshadow Simpson’s? Beyonce and Jay-Z welcoming daughter Blue Ivy Carter in January. Of course, they are our version of royalty (on par with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie). Whereas Jessica Simpson is a reality TV star/shoe maker who hasn’t had a hit song in at least a decade. So why all the attention on her uterus? The world may never know. For now, let’s breathe a sigh of relief and enjoy this time of non-Simpson-womb-watching. That is, until the photos of Maxwell surface in the highest-bidder tabloid, say, next week.
