Twenty-seven parishes in Philadelphia and Delaware County are included in merger and closing plans set fourth by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, the organization announced Sunday.

The archdiocese, which cited a decline in membership and loss of money as reasons for the closings, will start consolidating churches on July 1.

The announced mergers are as follows.

Northeast Philadelphia:

Our Lady of Consolation and Saint Leo the Great, both located in Tacony/Wissinoming, will merge at Our Lady of Consolation and keep its name.

Lower Northeast Philadelphia:

Holy Innocents, in the Juniata Park/Feltonville area, Saint Joan of Arc, in Harrowgate, Mater Dolorosa and Saint Joachim, both in Frankford, will merge at Holy Innocents and keep its name.

West Philadelphia:

Saint Barbara, in Wynnefield, and Saint Rose of Lima, in the Haddington/Carroll Park area, will merge at Saint Barbara and keep its name.

Northwest Philadelphia:

Saint Athanasius, in West Oak Lane, and Saint Benedict, in the Ogontz/Belfield area, will merge at Saint Athanasius and keep its name.

Holy Cross and Saint Therese of the Child Jesus, both in East Mount Airy, and Saint Madeleine Sophie, in West Mount Airy, will merge at Holy Cross and keep its name.

North Philadelphia:

Holy Name of Jesus and Saint Laurentius, in the Fishtown/Northern Liberties area, will merge at Holy Name of Jesus and keep its name.

Incarnation of Our Lord Parish, in Olney, will be divided and merge with Saint Helena, also in Olney, and Saint Veronica, in Hunting Park.

Eastern Delaware County:

Saint Laurence and Saint Alice, both in Upper Darby, will merge at Saint Laurence and keep that name.

Saint Philomena, in Lansdowne, and Saint Cyril of Alexandria, in East Lansdowne, will merge at Saint Philomena and keep that name.

Blessed Virgin Mary, in Darby, and Saint Louis, in Yeadon, will merge at Blessed Virgin Mary and keep that name.

Western Delaware County:

Saint John Fisher, in Boothwyn, Holy Saviour, in Linwood, and Immaculate Conception, in Marcus Hook, will merge at Saint John Fisher and keep that name.

Closed church’s will remain open as places of worship, the archdiocese said.
