New IHOP in East Village hires bouncer

Don't try any funny business at the downtown IHOP

The newly opened IHOP on East 14th Street is anticipating such a rowdy crowd that management has hired a bouncer to keep things orderly.

An off-duty police officer will keep watch at the diner between the hours of 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., according to Eater NY.

The 24-hour eatery is historically a popular post-bar hot spot to get your munch on in the hopes that it will stave off a hangover. We can see the need for the bouncer — hungry, drunk people knocking over each other’s milkshakes, maybe the server forgets to put the whip cream on the side of someone’s Cinn-a-Stack pancakes and suddenly you’ve got yourself a good ole fashioned IHOP brawl! (Note: Metro has never actually seen an IHOP brawl, but we have seen our share of Denny’s fights.)

Restaurant rage is a serious epidemic that is sweeping the nation and we applaud IHOP for taking this important step in prevention.

After all, it wasn’t long ago that a Texas man was so upset that Taco Bell raised the price on Beefy Crunch Burritos that he fired a BB gun at drive-thru workers and police cars and eventually barricaded himself inside a motel room with a pistol and an assault rifle. It wasn’t until cops chucked tear gas inside the room that the man finally surrendered– all because of a 50 cent price increase.

Surely, we don’t want a similar situation in the East Village. So, thank you, IHOP, for allowing us to eat our pancakes safely and securely.
