Arlington: Occupy this Wall Street

This Wall Street probably won’t see quite as many protests.

No matter how you feel about the 1 Percent, you can claim your own little piece of another Wall Street. This one is in a fairly quiet part of Arlington, Mass., just five miles from Harvard Square and an 8-mile drive down Mass. Ave. into the Back Bay. It’s also T-accessible via Alewife Station and the Red Line.

This single-family, Cape-style home has been brightly redecorated and renovated with new energy efficient windows, vinyl siding and insulation. There’s an updated kitchen and refinished floors, too.
The layout includes a lovely sunroom and lower level den.  Though it still has an oil-
fueled heating system, the home also has both a wood burning and a pellet stove, handy for power outages and added fuel economy. The current owners love its energy efficiency and low costs through winter, says realtor Steve McKenna. “Last year, during one of the worst winters the area has experienced, it cost less than $700 to heat,” he adds.

“Arlington has the best of both worlds,” says McKenna. “[There’s] easy access to public transportation — and if you don’t feel like heading into Boston, choose from one of Arlington’s many restaurants and catch a show at the Regent or Capital Theater.”

The shopping facilities at Alewife/Fresh Pond include a large Whole Foods and Trader Joes. Nearby are Arlington’s Skyline Park and Menotomy Rocks Park.

“This is a great starter home,”?says McKenna, “and a unique chance to put roots down in one of the most sought-after school districts in Arlington.” The home is located in the Brackett School district.
