Modern nursery must-have: Oeuf Mini Library

The Oeuf Mini Library isn’t limited to kids’ spaces.

If you’re a style-conscious parent, chances are you’ve admired (or own) the Mini Library by Brooklyn-based design firm Oeuf. The birch and white storage unit is often photographed — artfully styled, of course — in the homes of some of the most popular design bloggers, including Joy Cho from Oh Joy!, Joanna Goddard from A Cup of Jo and Holly Becker from Decor 8. We caught up with co-founder Sophie Demenge to find out what makes the furniture piece such Pinterest gold.

The Mini Library is so popular. Why do you think that is?
I think it’s so popular because it would fit in any room, not just a kid’s room. It’s refreshing but it’s not dumbed down for kids, [it doesn’t have to be] pink or blue or cute. My husband [co-creator Michael Ryan] and I first did it for us — everything we make we make for our own kids, really. We’re designers but we’re parents. So we have two little guinea pigs at home and we see what works with them scalewise. [The Mini Library] is reachable and not an eyesore.

What are the biggest trends you’re seeing in design for kids?
I think people are looking for pieces that are multi-functional, that evolve with the child. People are also more willing to mix and match than before, which is nice to see. They don’t necessarily just buy the whole bedroom set, they’re taking more risks and mixing vintage with modern and putting their own vibe and taste into it.

What can we expect from Oeuf next?
We’re working on a bedding line, which I’m hoping will launch in September.

What’s an item you currently love for a child’s room?
Christian Jackson posters are unbelievable. [They’re a unique take on fairy tales] and we have them hanging up in many places in our house.
