Claire Danes’ short bob at Sunday’s Emmy Awards ignited some major Twitter debates, but we didn’t get what the hoopla was about. Who cares if she didn’t actually cut her hair? Why not sport a short look without having to give up your locks? It’s actually genius. Peter Butler, the man behind Danes’ much-buzzed about ‘do lets us how to create a faux bob of our own using products found at your local drug store.

Step 1 — Prep

To start, Butler applied a few pumps of the Frizz-Ease ThermalProtection Formula Hair Serum through Danes’ wet hair and then added Frizz-Ease Curl Reviver Styling Mousse before blow-drying to give the hair more texture for better workability and hold.

Step 2 — Style

Next, Butler created a deep side part and used a large-barreled curling iron to curl the Emmy winner’s hair inward. He then created two small pin curls at the name of her neck and combed the top of her hair down and under, pinning as needed into the base — aka, instant hair cut.

Step 3 — Perfect

As the final touch, Butler tucked the hair on the left side of Danes’ head behind her ear and spritzed Frizz-Ease Moisture Barrier Firm Hold Hairspray for hold. Then to make sure the “Homeland” star’s elegant bob glistened under the lights, he applied a coat of John Frieda Frizz-Ease 100% Shine.
