Fur and femininity at BCBG Max Azria Fall 2014

In an effort to revamp the freebie and blogger-overrun circus that Fashion Week at Lincoln Center has morphed into over the last few seasons, IMG took action to clean up the tents. The renovated space, which I’m walking into for the first time, feels like a “Sex and the City”-era nightclub: The venue is all black, with darkly lit corridors leading to the various stages. It takes a few seconds to figure out exactly where the BCBG Max Azria show is. Can someone please put a light on? Once settled in my front-row seat I immediately check out what other showgoers are wearing and am floored by the healthy amount of heels in the crowd — white stilettos, pointy booties, 5-inch pumps — despite all the black ice warnings.
The looks coming down the runway, however, are more in line with current temps. It’s BCBG Max Azria’s 25th anniversary show, and the brand is wisely focusing on its greatest hits. Flowy asymmetrical dresses in neutral tones with colorblocked stripes are worn under cozy, fur-trimmed coats. Each look plays with texture: silk tunics over crisp white men’s shirts with outerwear that at times is a medley of leather, shearling and fur. The feminine-meets-utilitarian looks are perfect to look chic — and practical — in say, Sunday’s upcoming storm.
All the top bloggers — Song of Style, Man Repeller, Bryan Boy — are perched front row and getting more attention than the celebs (Samira Wiley from “Orange Is the New Black” is in the house!) in attendance. I overhear one girl say, “I idolizer her!” about Man Repeller. Oh, boy.
