This summer I nipped over to London for a few days as part of a European design inspiration trip with my husband, Wayne. I actually lived in Britain for a time, so I always enjoy going back, whether for business or pleasure. I almost always stay at the Covent Garden Hotel, a lovely hotel with an intimate feel and a great location, in the heart of the theater district near the Royal Opera House.

My main focus on the trip was seeing the David Bowie exhibit at the Victoria and Albert Musuem, as Bowie is a lifelong muse of mine — both his music and his sense of style. The exhibit was amazing and simply took my breath away. All of the anticipation was well worth it!

We also made some time for leisure since we were a bit tired from the travel. We spent a perfect summer afternoon at Hyde Park, complete with charming little ducks splashing around in the water.

I love all the shops in London and made sure to stop by my favorites: Dover Street Market, a beautiful shop with a great jewelry selection, and Content Beauty Wellbeing — so many of my favorite natural, organic beauty brands in one spot. I could spend hours in there. I also went into a shop I’d never been, Ben Pentreath, a charming little store in Bloomsbury for British ephemera. And of course, it’s never a trip to London without stopping by the Liberty store on Regent Street. Such a gorgeous, massive space; so aesthetically beautiful.

Wayne and I sampled some wonderful cuisine; my favorites were Modern Pantry in Clerkenwell (healthy and delicious), Providores and Tapa Room in Marylebone (boasts Britain’s largest range of New Zealand premium wines — a must-try) and my top choice of the trip, Kopapa — the chef, Peter Gordon, is a fellow Kiwi, so I was thrilled to try his restaurant. I wish we’d been able to spend more time there, but Wayne and I already have a list of places we want to catch on the next trip across the pond.
