VIDEO: Teenage girl brutally assaulted for iPhone

A 17-year-old girl was viciously attacked and robbed of her iPhone last Thursday afternoon, police reported.

The girl was followed into her apartment building on East 187 Street by a man described as Hispanic and in his early 20s, with cornrows and a burgundy coat with a fur-trimmed hood.

The man pushed her against a wall then dragged her down a flight of stairs. At the bottom of the stairs he punched her repeatedly in the face then stole her iPhone and fled.

According to police reports, the assailant ran west on East 187 Street, leaving the girl with bruises and cuts on her face.

The assault occurred on January 24 at 2:15 p.m.

The attack was captured on surveillance camera. Police are asking the public to help them find the suspect, who they say is approximately 6-foot-2 and 160 pounds, with a slim build and light complexion.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect is urged to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent via text to 274637 (CRIMES) by entering TIP577 before the information, or submitted online at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com. All calls are confidential.
