Metro announced Thursday it has become New York City’s No. 1 most circulated free daily newspaper with 328,296 copies per day, based on a CAC six-month audit ending March 31, 2011.
“We are thrilled to overtake the No. 1 market position from amNY, something Metro has worked hard to achieve for the sake of our partners, clients and readers,” says U.S. Publisher Yggers Mortensen. “We’ll continue to move forward with our plan to further grow as the leading newspaper in New York City.”
“The increase in our market position is yet another success for Metro, following the enormously popular guest editorships of Lady Gaga and Mark Ruffalo, the Golden Globe winner, Oscar nominee and eco-activist,” says Metro US Editor-in-Chief Tony Metcalf.
Five days a week, Metro delivers a free, attractively designed, easy-to-read summary of all the major news, sports, entertainment and business stories of the previous 24 hours. Local news and events are particularly important to Metro.
With its later deadlines, Metro is the only free daily in New York able to regularly publish the latest breaking news, such as the death of Osama bin Laden or the result of entertainment events, including the Oscars and professional sports.
Collectively, Metro is the largest free daily newspaper in the U.S. and is the world’s largest newspaper, published in over 100 major cities in 20 countries across North and South America, Europe and Asia.
