On the T: couple assaults two parents with their toddler (Update)

Another look at the alleged attacker.

A Weymouth man was arrested Sunday night after a request to bum a cigarette on a Red Line train turned violent, but Transit Police are on the hunt for his female accomplice.

On Tuesday, Transit Police released surveillance images of a woman suspected of beating on a couple who were riding the T with their two-year-old daughter.

Joseph Pacheco, 43, was taken into custody a little after 6 p.m. Sunday after attacking the toddler’s father and trying to hit him with a 40 oz. beer bottle.

The attack allegedly happened after the male victim, his two-year old daughter and child’s mother boarded a train at Wollaston Station. Pacheco and an unidentified female companion were already on board having an argument, according to police.

Pacheco asked the male victim for a cigarette twice;  the second time, he was allegedly “leaning over” the toddler’s carriage. The child’s mother asked Pacheco to step away from the girl, a request that Pacheco’s girlfriend reportedly “took exception” to, causing her to attack the mother.

When the child’s father intervened, Pacheco and his woman allegedly started attacking him as well. The mother fled with her child as the train pulled into Broadway Station.

But the father didn’t escape. According to police, the attack culminated with Pacheco swinging at the victim with the beer bottle. The father dodged the glass bottle, and it shattered against the train’s wall.

Transit Police caught up with Pacheco, and charged him with assault with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery. Police said he also had a warrant for shoplifting.

His girlfriend fled before police arrived, and as of deadline yesterday, was still at large.
