Dating in the city: The NYC neighborhoods with the most singles

Valentine’s Day is just two days away and the hunt to find a date continues.

It’s a known fact that women outnumber men in the power centers of the Northeast: New York, Boston and Washington D.C. Real estate website Trulia backs up the facts.

In New York City, women outnumber men 1.07 to 1, according to census data. This ratio makes dating, well, feel like you’ve been thrown in the middle of a boxing ring. You have to be prepared to take some punches.

Real estate website Trulia is helping NYC singles by providing data on where other singles live. That’s what we’ve been doing wrong, readers – we’ve been spending time in the wrong neighborhoods.

Trulia looked at the ratio of single men and women across New York City. They subtracted estimates of the gay and lesbian population for this report.

So where can a single lady pick up a single dude? Ladies, you have to go downtown. Take a cab south of 14th Street, because that’s where you’ll meet single men. If downtown Manhattan isn’t your scene, hop on over to parts of Queens, including Long Island City. These areas have more men living alone that women living along.

As for where men can find single ladies, that’s uptown. It seems like Billy Joel was on to something with his song “Uptown Girls,” in which he described a downtown guy vying for an uptown girl’s affection.

On the Upper East Side, in particular the ZIP code 10021, which covers most of the East 70′s, has almost two women living alone for every man who lives alone, according to Trulia.

Happy dating, readers.
